Monday at the Town Square in Baton Rouge at 5:00pm, DOTD will be hosting an input meeting with local residents regarding ideas in the area. The NIMBY's of the overpass area will surely be out in full force. What's more important, a strip of outstanding bars and restaurants or solving one of the nation's worst traffic snarls?

A) Not every damn cross street in the city needs a ramp
B) Not every person in this damn city needs to use the interstate to go the next block over. Example - people getting on at Sherwood and off again at Airline, or the jackasses that get on from Gubbmint street on 110 and exit at Washington St on 10 while cutting across two lanes of traffic on a whim and unsafely. People using the merge lane to go from Essen to Bluebonnet and vice versa.
C) Close Washington street exit and extend that lane at least to College. Sorry LSU lakes and rat nest bars.

Strip of restaurants.

I love my neighborhood and could not care less about people living outside it.

It's going to end up happening, it has to. As a business owner under a major interstate, they should've had the foresight to see the possibility of this occurring.

It is a cool area and I'd hate to see it go but they need to quit fighting and see this as an opportunity for change. Every establishment over there would kill in the Northgate area.

Wait, what improvements are being discussed that have anything to do with the overpass area?

No way! That's our strategy to get people to stay in BR.

Widening I-10 east from Washington street to the 10/12 split. Such improvements would likely inevitably result in most of the businesses in that area having to move.

Eh, I doubt they'd ever be able to afford that anyway. Widening overpasses in highly urbanized areas like that is seriously expensive. It'd be much easier to just close the Washington exit & extend that into a long merge lane. Disallow lane changes after the 10/110 merge for at least a quarter mile (physical barrier of some sort). Then slow the speed limit on the bridge to 50 in order to cut down on accidents. I think those 3 simple things could be done quickly & would make big impacts.

Washington exit has got to go. That's one of the most ridiculous situations. Interstate going to one lane.

I'm sure that will be considered racist though.

Do that many people really use the Washington St exit?

They can add lanes all through that area with minimal disruption of the grid below.

Hire the Harris County Toll Road Authority to build the loop and collect the tolls.

We have highways being built around Houston at lightening speed. Why? Cause serious private dollars are involved .

Widening the interstate will do little to alleviate the problem. Without a loop nothing will really change. But nobody wants a loop in their neighborhood either. Hmmmm...
Maybe it'll help if I criticize on a message board without offering any suggestions for the problem.
