By 1999 Rick Schwartz, aka Domain King, owned more than 3,000 domains, buying both in auctions, directly from owners via email and through his website eRealEstate.com. His most valuable early property was Porno.com, for which he paid $42,000 in 1997 and sold in 2015 for $8,888,888 after earning in excess of $10 million in advertising revenue without ever having any adult content.

A couple of weeks ago, Andrew Allemann reported that QuinStreet was the buyer of Insurance.com, although the price was not revealed at the time of the news release.  In today’s Second Quarter earnings call with analysts and investors, the company reported that it paid $35,600,000 for Insurance.com.

Insure.com $16 million in 2009.

Domain names could be purchased for $100 back in the 90's you moron.

He has sold domains very early on for as much as $750,000 that he purchased for $100 in the late-1990s,

How did you not have recourse through the ACPA? Are subs not protected by that?

I agree.

But paying $8.88 million for Porno.com isn't. Schwartz made over $10 million on it just selling ad space.

Don't fret, there's still some valuable sites left out there.

Just found Farmjelly.com That could be an up and comer, for all the farmers that also make their own jelly...

Additionally, if you create a cultural trend based on a pre-registered domain, you could be set up for success.

Where do you think the saying bombdotcom came from? www.bombdotcom.com No one would normally say that, but it's catchy and took off.
