I've owned several labs and beagles.

But the best dog I've owned was the spawn of a full bred Chocolate lab and a full bred Daschund. He looked like a full bred Lab, but was only about 1/3 the size. I miss that bastard.

American Staffordshire Terrier is the best breed I've ever owned.

King Charles is the best. Temperament of a setter, don't yap, don't tear up stuff, don't dig. Best little friend I've ever had.

We currently are housing a Belgian Malinos and a German Shepherd for some friends who are out of the country for a few months. The Malinos is possibly the smartest dog I have ever been around. I would love to have one of my own but even with 1 acre to run around I can tell its not enough room for her.

Child friendly, Boxer.

Obedience, Blue Heeler.

Health.. Mutt.

Had 2 boxers, one died of lymphoma and the other a brain tumor. They're bad about cancers. They're fairly smart, but my Blue Heeler puts them to shame. Unfortunately, Heelers can be prone to deafness too, which mine is.

All around.. a german shepard mixed mutt growing up was probably the best all around dog I had. May be partly biased because of being young though.

If I get another dog down the line, I'll be getting another Heeler.

Boxer - saw the puppies for sale when I was in junior high and spent my life savings on one. Was my best friend for 12 years. I miss that fella , arthritis in his hips did him in. Worst day of my life was putting him to sleep at the vet.

Yep. Grew up with one, and she was such a loyal and gentle dog that my parents now have another.

We had a Rat Terrier who was very sweet as well.. but our Blue was the best family dog you could ask for. I've seen Rat Terriers all over the spectrum.. but every Blue I've been around is as sweet/loyal/protective as the one I grew up with.

I have a Westie now in my adulthood, and I love her more than life, but she is more of a mommy's girl who loves attention than a "family dog".

I have a red, he's a pain in the arse. Smart, but more stubborn than his owner.

I didn't realize how awesome our heeler was till it went missing and I realized it was everything I wanted in a dog.

Rat Terror?! Really?! I love mine to death, but he's insane. He once climbed up the pull-down ladder to my attic to chase mice. He tore up a bunch of ductwork before we tackled him and hauled him down.

Or slight variations.

My two best dogs have both been rescue golden mixes but looked very much like purebred goldens.
