A Delta Air Lines passenger was left bloody and badly injured after being attacked by an emotional support dog aboard a flight at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

A Delta spokesperson told Fox 5 Atlanta that the victim was removed from the flight so that he could receive medical attention.

"The gentleman’s face was completely bloody, blood in his eyes, cheeks, nose, his mouth, his shirt was covered in blood," passenger Bridget Maddox-Peoples told Fox 5.

She described the dog as a possible lab mix weighing an estimated 50 pounds.

According to Maddox-Peoples, the victim was sitting by the window while the dog's owner was in the middle seat. She said the flight crew reacted immediately and paramedics boarded the plane to render medical attention.

The man's status is unknown, but Maddox-Peoples said he appeared shaken up. Delta confirmed the incident in a statement to Fox 5 and said the dog and its owner eventually departed Atlanta on a later flight.

"Prior to pushback of flight 1430, ATL-SAN, a passenger sustained a bite from another passenger's emotional support dog. The customer who was bitten was removed from the flight to receive medical attention. Local law enforcement cleared the dog, and the dog and its owner were re-accommodated on a later flight; the dog will fly in a kennel."

You mother frickers leave Emotional Support Dogs alone! Mine has gotten me through some rough patches in life. Just this morning the barista at Starbucks made me a fricking Venti instead of a Grande. I would have been literally shaking if not for my dog Hugo Chavez.

The only dogs that should be allowed in the cabin of an air plane should be actual service dogs for physically challenged people.

frick you and you emotions. Can't handle flying? You don't have to fly. Bus tickets are way cheaper anyway

That dog should be shot and the owner arrested. If the owner thinks he needs an emotional dog now just wait until I would be done taking his arse to court. He would need a whole fricking kennel of them.

Adam Carolla has been waiting for something like this to happen for years so these emotional support animals will be kicked off of planes and we can regain our sanity.

Your fricking dog needs to be in the cargo hold because it's an animal.

It doesn't bother me. I wouldn't do it ever because I don't feel like dealing with it, but it doesn't bother me when others do.

Why does it bother everyone? More dogs on my flights the better

When we start getting 3 of these a week and the airlines start getting sued.

As of now, they can't even really ask you to prove your dog is certified or whatever. Even so, you can go online and get it certified almost instantly.

there has been an uptick in the number of people getting their pet classified as an emotional support animal so they dont have to pay the high fees associated with pet travel. If this is the case that the dog was just a pet, i hope the guy that was attacked sues the hell out of the dog owner.

but, needing more information, was this an actual support animal and the guy attacked was being antagonistic because he was trapped by the window?

I just don't get how a dog that small can hurt someone like that. It weighed 50 fricking pounds. The average weight of a woman in 2010 is 166 pounds. Add in the adrenaline effect and people can be super strong. And there are multiple people there. Dog should have been ripped to shreds by the passengers before it did that to someone.
