I graduated about 10 years ago and I feel it was a quality school. You will hear a lot of shite from people on here about it and if you check the passage rates for the program, it's justified. Personally, I give it good marks.

Isn't it true that many of the top shysters in South Louisiana graduated near the bottom of their class? I always heard that EEric was at rock bottom.
As to the OP, our former Goevernor got his degree from there, how bad can it be?

This is a complicated question. Is it better than LSU or Tulane? Hell no. When you weigh the costs to attend Loyola - about 5x Southern's tuition - and compare their bar passage rates, the waters get muddied. Unless you plan to practice in New Orleans or have family money, I would attend Southern over Loyola.
Also, Southern has a night program that takes 4 years to complete and costs about $4k/semester. That's the route I took because I worked 40-50 hours a week during school. All of the classmates I kept up with were gainfully employed at graduation (many were paralegals while attending).
I graduated Southern's night program damn near the bottom of my class and got a great job right out of school. That was 2011, considered one of the worst years for new lawyers.

It's always funny when kids from the 94th best law school in the country act like they're at Harvard.
The gap between Southern and LSU is a lot smaller than the gap between LSU and Texas, Michigan, UCLA and a whole lot of other state schools.

i agree there is an arrogance at LSU that always blew my mind, both in undergrad and esp in law school

Not that I advocate acting like a douche when talking to someone else but LSU law is much better than that ranking. Actually take a look at their job statistics, if you want to practice in Louisiana LSU is the school you want to attend. Also LSU law is ranked in the top 10 every year for best value and underrated law schools in the country.

sounds like somebody read a brochure and/or works for LSU Law

No, they are not very good by comparison to any other school in the state, but that doesn't mean that you can't get a good education.
If you're just looking to get a J.D. and start your own practice, then there's nothing wrong with it. I'd be weary personally--the Southern University system as a whole is garbage and the administration does not have the best interests of the students in mind. See the early 2000s scandal where some admins were literally selling people degrees for $1,200 or the current athletics debacle for example.
These aren't in the law school, but it goes to show how terrible that system functions as a whole.

Agree 100%. The place is frustrating as hell. On the first day of each semester I had to go to at least 3 different buildings to pay my fee bill, 4 if I wanted a parking pass.
The law professors, by and large, are great. Most are practicing attorneys with entertaining stories of real clients. My friends at LSU took crim law from a guy who had never practiced a day in his life, my crim law professor was a former advisor to the president of Nigeria and once witnessed a client get stoned to death. I took that class 7 years ago and could easily pass the criminal portion of the bar exam today.

One of my teachers at LSU law is a Southern law grad and he praises SU law and says it's a great option besides LSU, I also should mention he's the head homicide prosecuting attorney for the city of Baton Rouge and he graduated with Hillard Moore who is the current DA of EBR parish, so it seems southern grads can do pretty well for themselves
