Making a trip for a conference in a few weeks with wife and 6 month old. Staying downtown so don't want to rent a car for a week.
Anyone know if cabs require carseats of if you can have them in a carrier. TIA

Pretty sure anytime a small kid is in a car in LA, you need an appropriately sized car seat.
Is this the carrier that snaps into a base for your personal vehicle? Mine were also able to be used without the base--you just had to thread the belt through. (It's been a while since mine were in infant carriers, so maybe they're different now.) Check your instructions to see if it can be used that way.
ETA: Apparently I was wrong & taxis are not considered "motor vehicles" and don't have to follow the LA car seat regulations. LINK
But as others have said, I wouldn't want my kid riding in any vehicle in NOLA without a car seat.

I do not think New Orleans is excluded (Like New York and Vegas is/was), but I do know you can either call a cab company and request one with a car seat
Or
you can fly with it on the airline. You'll just get a tag from the counter at your gate and before you get on the plane you leave it right at the end of the jetway and they take it the same time they do strollers and wheelchairs and such.
I would never consider riding in a cab from MSY to Downtown with my child not in a car seat, whether it was legal or not.

Sorry if I sound like as arse, but why would it matter if it was the law or not. Why would you ever have your 6mth old in a car and not in a car seat? Not that on just regular streets would be ok, but you will be on the interstate from the airport to downtown.
I’m sure you could call a few cab companies and they may have something or if you have to pay to have it flown with you, isn’t it worth it?

On all major airlines, a carseat can be checked for free.
And most carseats can be used with a seatbelt strap.

You can check or "carry" it on, in addition to a stroller and neither will count against airline baggage limits.
If you have the base, just bring the base to the gate with you.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the info.
I appreciate all the suggestions and I assure you we take our baby's safety very seriously.
We were considering a cab from the airport to downtown, but a shuttle. We also have friends in the area with carseats that would pick us up and drop us downtown if there were no shuttle buses available from the hotel.
We would consider a short downtown cab ride in a pinch if it was an option, which we've done in New York, and just wanted to see if NOLA had the same exception.
I really appreciate all the responses.

You are going to need a car seat and make sure to bring cash.
