Does everybody really get abused in prison (spinoff of OPP thread)?

So obviously we've all heard the jokes and insinuations like "JohnDoe gonna be bending over quite a bit" when somebody that we know winds up in OPP for a couple of months.

But is this definitely true? Could a dude who is pretty clever seriously not avoid this (and I don't mean by knifing somebody on the first day to "earn respect"), I just mean by basically keeping to himself, never really leaving his cell unless it was absolutely necessary, always carrying a Bible around and praying, etc.?

I feel that I (for example) could "adopt" a really Christian persona and admit that I messed up but that I was "getting right with God" (even though I'm agnostic) just to earn the respect and maybe appeal to the protection of other Christians in prison (and I feel like there are a ton). Maybe try to appeal to a guard or something by my thoughtfulness or questions about the Saints and Pelicans (hey did you happen to see how the game went last night?), etc. etc.

I realize this thread sounds super naive but I just don't believe that literally every guy who is decent looking and fit gets sexually harrassed

A good friend of mine did 4 years in FCI Beaumont. He said it wasn't too bad. No rapes or stabbings while he was there.

I suppose it depends on which prison you go to for the crime you committed.

If you were in a gang yeah you could get protection if your brothers are in there but if they aren't and it's all rivals then yeah you will die.

Child molestors and such get everything they deserve.

Honestly just live a good life and you'll avoid jail

So you're saying that a normal guy who has a normal life, but just fricks up and gets 3 DUI's and has to serve 4 months at OPP. He has no shot of not being violated? He can't outsmart the bullies? Does he get abused like daily? Weekly? Just once and that's it? I really don't want to know but I just don't get why prisoners can't act normal and fap to Playboys or something instead of being animals.

So do you think that a normal dude with like a college degree and a decent attorney could basically get to pick a better prison or jail as part of the sentencing process? Is that kind of inherently known by the sentencers like "Oh man, this white collar guy can't go to OPP he'd be ruined. Let's send him to Beaumont"?

I live downtown and will always live downtown no matter what city I live in because I would lose my job/career if I ever got a DUI. I have 0 and will never have one.

Not to everyone; but it happens

A few guys who I worked with doing disaster cleanup had done some time for everything from drugs to murder. The way they put it was there was an entire civilization and hierarchy (for lack of a better term) in each prison population. As long as you were pretty cool to most people, they were cool with you. They would tell stories about people acting out but it was mostly against the guards. The biggest thing I took from it was that in most cases when you are sentenced to 10 years in LA, you serve 5 with good behavior. If you turn into this jailhouse predator not only will you serve your full 10 but you will also get extra time.

TLDR
Don't look for trouble and it won't look for you

Had some friends who did decades in places like Joliet and the Supermax in Colorado. The one guy had to have surgery to repair his arse; the other guy wound up in solitary, which he considered a blessing. In the Supermax, he became friends with … Tim VcVeigh and the Unabomber. Said McVeigh was a good chess player.

Would a prison guard ever intervene? I feel like they're just as guilty as the people doing it. I don't understand why it's allowed to happen to be honest (unless it's like a pedophile or terrorist or something).

All you have to do is stand up for yourself when you get checked, someone tries to take your commissary etc. and you'll be fine. Just mind your own business and don't get involved in all the games and your good.

Playboys are contraband and will get you in trouble

Prison tattoos are also considered self mutilation and will also get you in trouble if they catch you giving or getting them

No one is just gonna force themselves on you unless you're like supermodel hot, but let's be honest you're probably not. You're gonna have to show off the goods a little bit and actually work for it. But just remember to exude confidence and try and be yourself.
