There's an oil and gas industry bowling league here in the winter at Lucky Strike. Most companies can put out a team, some two. It's actually pretty fun because everyone's in the younger half of o&g professionals.

Funny how big it was in the 80s. Yeah, those breaking shots watching it this weekend were freakin cool. The occasional trash talk was funny.

I do. it's my weekly stress reliever on Wednesday nights. 40+ teams in our league(mixed) and there are leagues held nightly. Cheap as well. $13/week and the strongest and cheapest drinks in town.

Bowling is no trashy than a lot of fans that go to the Saints games.

Do people actually still use the word passé, or is that just a passé?

I bowl Weds nights at All Star - some trashy stuff in there but nothing more than anything else that goes on in this town.

I did for a while in a fun beginners league, mostly younger people and friends. Then a company bought out the bowling alley and got rid of my league. The only leagues available were full of middle aged men and women who have been bowling together for 20+ years. They were super into bowling and rules and didn't seem like they were having fun at all, you should have seen these people. I went to the opening meeting, never signed up and never went back. If they opened another beginners league I would go though

Used to at Don Carters a few years ago but I kept getting pissed off even though I knew going in that I suck.

I do and it can be a great way to meet people but I think the alleys do a poor job of getting folks into leagues. All types bowl.

1- I think it's probably a cyclical thing. Sometimes it's more popular, sometimes less. But there is always likely a core that remains. I think bowling leagues have been shown on just about every sitcom ever broadcast over the years (slight exaggeration there?)

2- Regarding that article Kafka posted: Surely people who bowl but not in leagues don't do so totally alone. I'd guess they do so in groups of friends of a couple of families together or maybe for birthday parties or such. I'd think the social interaction could still occur at these.

I worked as a supervisor for about a year at a relatively popular bowling alley, and these guys (very few ladies) take things very seriously, but part of the difference is that they have a lot more money involved. I played in some rec leagues and enjoyed it but the season would drag on to long and I never liked playing that much. The thing I did like was that I could drink with my friends without too many idiots that you get around you during open bowl.

Because of the area of this bowling area we were busy a lot too. We would get a 1-2 Hour waiting list in the winter. Those were some crazy weekend nights.
