Or even know someone that lives there and can tell me about this place?

I may be moving down there this fall and I keep coming back to this place when I'm looking for places to stay.

Anyone have any information, horror stories, great reviews, etc that they would want to share?

TIA

You'd have to be a little insane to willingly live in that third world country.

Nothing beats The Saulet when it comes to New Orleans apartments.

Here's a good tool to help you figure out where you want to live in New Orleans. If there are multiple murders within 5 blocks of you it's probably best to avoid, unless you're cool with being killed and all. LINK

I'd honestly look elsewhere. That's not a great part of town. Tulane and S. Broad on a week night is scary.

All they do is nickel and dime you over there and you can't walk around those parts without a bodyguard at night

those apartments aren't convenient to anything. It's not a walkable/bikeable area at all.

I looked up the price and there are better places in that range. Some apartments downtown can be had for around that price. The Preserve is a little down Tulane is much better than those.

I lived there when I was in law school. I loved it. Great location as far as proximity to interstate, mid-city, and downtown New Orleans.

Crime happens everywhere in New Orleans now so I wouldn't worry about that. It has gated, covered, parking and you need a code to get into the resident's parking area or access the elevator.

I had no issues there. Easy walk to LSU and Tulane Med. If you walk down Poydras during the daytime you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

FYI When I lived there it was perfect home base for Mardi-Gras, with easy access to mid-city and downtown parades.

And as far as late night walking. I've walked home from during Mardi Gras drunken nights and walked from The Metro NYE party with no issues (when I couldn't get a cab). Long walk, but never felt unsafe.

I moved from Tchoup near Frankie and Johnnys/Childrens Hospital to the Marquis. Both were great locations for different reasons.

ETA: Also if you need to you can walk to Saints/Pels games and be home before anyone else in a car. And the Sheriff's office is right next door to the apartment, as is the courthouse.

though with the new hospital it is one of the fastest improving areas in the city.... but starting from a really terrible point.

depends what you are comfortable with.

I wouldn't live in that area.

It's not walkable at all really, so it kinda takes away from the convenient location.

It would be close to drive to school, but as far as anything outside of school it isn't very convenient, unless you plan on driving everywhere. It's not a very safe location.

The same goes for the Preserve, a friend of mine who went to LSUHSC lived there and liked it, but it isn't super convenient for walking places either.

My wife goes to LSUHSC and we live Uptown and love it. The trek to school isn't too bad 10-15 minutes depending on traffic, but it's a much better place to live when you aren't at school or the hospital.

I lived in the Marquis and this girl I was cool with/messed around with lived in the Marquis as well. She went to LSU Med school and roomed with a girl who was at Tulane School of public health .

My old gf used to live in the Preserve.

My best friend's current girlfriend lives there now.

I've spent many a night at the Preserve and I prefer the Marquis.

I don't know that you will find someone able to give you more knowledgable first-hand insight on either place. I lived at the Marquis for 2-3 years and spent at least 50-100 nights at the Preserve.

Any complaint people make about the neighborhood and area of the Marquis, they need to say the same EXACT thing about the Preserve. Otherwise they're just flat out lying.

It's mid-city New Orleans. You got rich folks and you got poor folks. You got folks with professional degrees and one block away you have professional criminals. This is what New Orleans is today.

You can get your car broken anywhere and you can get robbed at gunpoint in some of the nicest restaurants. Just go with your gut and make the best decision for you.

Uptown would be preferable but for what we can afford and what we are looking for, I just can't find much uptown
