I go if I suspect flu. They do a nasal swab and know in minutes.

If I have it, I know to stay away from coworkers and others to avoid spreading it, and I can get an Rx to help some.

Last time I had the flu, the symptoms were very mild (I had the flu shot, which can reduce symptoms even if you still get the flu), and I was on the way to work when I got checked just in case. Good thing I checked, or I would have exposed a bunch of other folks.

I believe that lies on the hands of a government that forces hospitals by law to treat anything that comes through its doors, and they have to push prices up on the insured to cover the lost funds. Hence Mid City closing down its ER.

This is exactly why I went to Urgent Care as soon as I started feeling sick(running fever) last month. With all the flu going around at work I didn't want to be exposing patients/coworkers if I had the flu. Also...I could then let employee health know and they would monitor when I could return to work. Plus...if I had the flu or strep I could be started on meds.

In the past, no. Last year, I was feeling pretty bad for about 3 days. Went and they gave me a shot. Awesome. First steroid shot I've ever had. This yr, congestion and sore throat hit late one night. Went ahead and got a shot the next morning. Screw feeling bad.

Hope you feel better soon. A fever that high sounds absolutely miserable as an adult.

I go to get the tamiflu prescription. When taken early, that shite will knock the flu out like a 30 second Rhonda Rousey fight

Not sure why people go to the doctor every single time they feel sick.

Unless it's something super serious, drink plenty of fluids, rest and take any non prescription medication that may help.

If you are still violently ill a week later, then go.

No wonder healthcare is so damn expensive.

Because it takes all of an hour or so to drop in the "Doc in a box" as my parents always called it when I was a kid, and get a shot or a prescription for some tamiflu or cough syrup that makes your illness much more tolerable.

Or you could just be a stubborn dumb shite and not go at all until you realize you fricked up and now you have pneumonia because your sinus drainage got in your lungs while you were sleeping and therefore your medical expenses will be quadrupled as they do chest xrays and have to prescribe antibiotics and you have to miss work and possibly be put in the hospital..... All because you were too cool to get a shot in the arse at the "doc in a box" when you first started feeling shitty.

I don't do Tamiflu. Makes my family nauseous. Side effects seem worse than the flu itself for a one-day (at best) reprieve.

If I dont take it, flu lasts me about a week or a little longer. If I get it in the first 2 days, that gets cut to 4-5. I have a stomach of iron though so I dont have to deal with nausea

If you have sudden-onset "truck just hit me" symptoms (body ache, fever, runny nose, heavy cough), you have 48-72 hours to start Tamiflu for it to do you any good.
A buddy working ER up in NW LA last week told me he had 20+ flu B positives, and had not yet finished his shift. I also know of a 1yo w/ Flu B in Tangi this weekend. BTW, Tamiflu works on both A and B.

There has been an increase in Influenza type A in the last couple of weeks.

In answer to your question, No.
When it goes over three days, yes.

So your advice for the flu is to only go to the Dr. when it lasts over 3 days?

You have to start Tamiflu within ~48 hours or else it does absolutely no good.

Just get a bag of weed, a bottle of aspirin, and ride that shite out. That'll take care of your fever and nausea, as well as the boredom of being stuck indoors for a few days. Getting my first flu as an adult sold me on the medicinal benefit of marijuana. I immediately understood why my buddy who had leukemia would trade his oxycontin for bags of weed.

No. Tamiflu will only help within first 24 hrs. Nothing drs can do for the flu but confirm you have it and maybe give you an excuse for work/school.

Yeah, I didn't realize it hadn't gotten that high. The NP at the clinic said I had some brass just walking into a clinic with a fever that high.
