Do you think this is a setup or legit medical inquiry?

Thealmightsmash suggested on a thread that I might want to see a neurologist over weird dreams (and also I have been having terrible headaches). So, I went to an ophthamologist yesterday because the headaches were in my eyes too. He did a bunch of tests including a vision field and said I have significant pappilladema (not spelled right) and a loss of peripheral vision. From our discussions, it could be something really serious but I don't think so. He sent me to a neurologist who asked a lot of questions that seemed to be the kind a psych would ask so I refused to answer those questions because I think he might be trying to set me up to go to some psychiatric center (the same day referral seemed sketchy to me). The neuros (the original had another guy come in) sent me off for an immediate head MRI (good service if you have good insurance ) and I'm supposed to go in at 1 to get the results. They close at noon today but are staying open late just for me so I can't complain about the service there.

I'm thinking of cancelling because they seem to be anxious to get me in and I suspect my Dad has found out and they are going to send me to the mental hospital, and I'm not going. I can take passion flower for the headaches. I just called my eye doctor (who is really nice) and he said "you really need to go" (and I didn't know this, but apparently, I think, he's going to come over too).

I don't want to research papilladema because medical searches on the internet will scare you for no reason because you never have the bad stuff that the internet suggests.

Seems to me this is some ruse to get me into some mental ward. Advice? Thanks.

Sounds like it. Especially with that comment about the dad being in on it.

Transfer some of your investments to me before you go. I will protect them from your controlling father and make sure it is all there when you get out.

Good luck YG.

Based on this post alone, I wouldn't rule out paranoid schizophrenia. Definitely go.

Papilledema is a condition in which increased pressure in or around the brain causes the part of the optic nerve inside the eye to swell.

This typically isn't something to wait and hope it goes away. And a little light googling shows that an MRI is apparently one of the ways to diagnose this condition.

I strongly suggest you go.

Papilledema is a physical problem, not a psychiatric problem, and it could have a very serious underlying cause. It's your right to refuse further diagnostic testing and treatment, but you would be an idiot to do so.

Are you joking? If she is a schizo then the mental ward is the last place she should go. Do you know what they do to schizos in those places? Best just to ride it out.

I can't imagine why you would not get the fricking MRI. Your eyeballs and your brain are not things you want to take lightly. They're not conspiring to throw you into the mental ward, they want to determine the physical causes of your symptoms so they can best treat it.

I've already had the MRI. Today is the day I get the results. But, I am concerned that I'll go in and end up getting hauled off somewhere.

It has nothing to do with psych issues and a lot to do with increased intracranial pressure.

That isn't something to take lightly, buttercup.

It can mean a multitude of things, some very bad.

By the way, yoga girl, you are extremely paranoid.

They can't send you to a mental hospital unless you are a danger to yourself or others.

You're literally fricking retarded. I realize that only siths deal in absolutes, but papilledema is never a benign finding.
