crack them flat on a paper towel on the counter, empty them into whatever, wrap the egg shells in the paper towel and put it into the trash

I throw them in the garbage. Never thought of doing anything else.

Garbage disposal.. I read somewhere they help to sharpen the blades. I think Real Simple magazine.

I don't have a garbage disposal. In the middle of nowhere it would just be something else to break and be a MAJOR inconvenience (or clog and be a huge mess).

Eggshells go into the garden, after a couple days in the sun I step on them to crush them up and hoe them into the soil. The calcium is great for the plants. I'm kinda picky about veggie scraps in the garden though. While compost is great fertilizer it could also bring disease/pests into the garden.

trash. Sounds like a good way to take some life out of your disposal. Not saying it won't work, just isn't the best idea.

Google says not to do it

Some people claim that egg shells sharpen the blades of the unit, but this is not true. The shells' stringy membrane layers can wrap around the shredder ring, and the shell itself will be ground to a sand-like consistency capable of clogging pipes.

If you do it to help clean the blades, no cause I don't eat eggs at home.
It's easier to use ice cubes to clean the blades, no potential for clogs.

I compost, toss in garbage or disposal, whichever I'm in the mood for. And I've got a 16 year old garbage disposal and runs like I just bought it.

Run lemons through it to deodorize.

I have not had a single issue with a disposal in 30+ years.

17 years, no problems. Ice is the ticket to help keep it clean. NO grease/cooking oil goes down it too!

Egg shells no. Hot scolding oil and grease, every time.
