or town can claim. Can you figure out what that property is?

Reddit answered this a few years ago. It has to do with population and elevation. There is no larger city at than those at that altitude or something like that.

Within the US, yes.

For example, the capital of Bolivia (La Paz) has about a million people living at about 12000 feet asl.

All the cities listed were withing the US, not sure how you make the connection with LaPaz.

How's Chicago make the list then? L.A. is larger and, I think, has areas at higher elevations.

Must be the mean elevation. L.A. has high points but is by and large much a good bit lower than Chicago.
