Escalators IDGAF

Moving sidewalks are what pisses me off, they are there to help speed things up, not lean your fat arse up on and block the way.

Skipping steps make it faster.

What long arse escalator are you riding that gives you enough time to get this irritated?

I don't know about the OP but the DC Metro system has some of the longest escalators in this hemisphere.

From LINK

quote:

This station features the longest set of single-span escalators in the Western Hemisphere, each featuring a length of 230 feet (70 m), with a vertical rise of 115 feet (35 m). It is the second deepest station in the system, behind Forest Glen, which has an elevator-only exit due to its depth. Wheaton's escalators travel at a speed of 90 feet (27 m) per minute (±5%) and are set at an inclination of 30 degrees. The trip takes approximately 2 minutes and 45 seconds, though some commuters shorten the time by walking.

I'm guilty of violating this when I visited DC once and had to take the metro. I felt bad about it.

I'll keep walking if there's no one in front of me. I won't walk past someone else though - I'll just wait.

The only thing more obnoxious than someone who doesn't are the little escalator zealots who huff and puff because they have to ask someone to move over

This.

Stand on the right and walk on the left. Stand on the left side of an escalator in NY and you might get stabbed.

Depends on if I'm in a hurry or not. Escalators have a higher step between landings than conventional stairs do. So not everyone can climb them like stairs.

Often times an escalator will be labeled with no walking. However, stand on the right if you don't plan on walking.

A one flight deal I don't see the point in saving 10 seconds taking steps. In a subway or something when trying to catch a connecting train, I can see why those seconds matter

How about you take the elevator if you don't want to walk?

Yep. I can't begin to count how many times I've missed a train and had to wait up to ten minutes for the next one b/c the whole Griswold family was blocking the escalator.

Peachtree Center Station in Atlanta has some massive ones too. The platforms are 120 feet underground. The Ellis Street escalator is 193 feet long and steep.

Yes. Unless
