So many times I hear things like
- call my lawyer
- I need to run this by my lawyer

At 46 years old I’ve never needed a lawyer for anything. Am I missing something or is there a reason the average person needs to have a standing relationship with a lawyer?

But she’s also a lawyer.

We're between lawyers right now. You see, our first lawyer screwed our affairs so bad.

I imagine lots of people who own properties and/or run businesses have a regular use for a tax attorney, a real estate attorney, etc.

I doubt there's a bunch of people walking around with the type of attorney you're referring to, just waiting to sue the next person who pisses them off.

If you haven’t used a lawyer even once by 46 then you probably haven’t accomplished very much.

My attorneys are "lawyers' lawyers" - if you get what I mean - Heavy Hitters.

I keep those cats on retainer. Their billable rates are astronomical, but I never lose. I am not a litigious person, but I will fight like hell and drain most opponents' resources down to the last penny.

Most people don't have a lawyer on speed dial. If they've ever bought or sold real estate or signed a will, they used a lawyer. They may not have talked to him in five years, but they consider him or her "their" lawyer, and it's who they'd call if they have a legal matter.
