No. I've done it a few times in the past with people I determine appear genuine and in a tough spot. Bought a guy food in a gas station and paid for someone to get gas but I pretty much never give cash.

People standing outside the door of a business or who shout at me at the gas station are always getting told no. I had the same guy outside a Chinese restaurant ask me 3 separate times within 5 minutes. I had a guy shout at me from across the street while walking in to a gas station and then hovered in front of my car waiting for me to come out. shite fricking pisses me off. Living in Baton Rouge and getting rudely solicited on a regular basis has basically ruined it for anyone asking me now.

So, I have a friend on Facebook who is always taking pictures with homeless people he gives money to. He always captions the pictures with some biblical quote and talks down to people who don't serve the homeless.

Do you give homeless people money?

So he's doing it out of selfishness and virtue signalling. Kudos, man! I sometimes do but never at stoplights, never at gas stations and never when they are aggressively badgering me.

Per the social work "experts," who end to lean bleeding heart, it is actually hurting most homeless to give them money rather than donate to services that specialize in helping them, like shelters, clinics, etc.

Probably true in general, but I hate to generalize.

I despise beggars.

I used to not, but am starting to change my mind. Yesterday, I was asked by a woman for money as I went into a restaurant. I had no cash/change. She came up to me on my way to the car and asked me for some of my food as if I did not buy exactly what I needed. When I told her no, she told me I was going to hell, and she hoped I wrecked on the way home.

There's a big difference between homeless and beggars. I see plenty of beggars every day who don't claim to be homeless and I see homeless to haven't ever asked anyone for anything. They stick to themselves.

Yeah next time he pats himself on the back, reply with this --

“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven." - Matthew 6:1

Yes, if I have a couple of bucks laying around I give it to them. It doesn't hurt me and could help. If they use it to buy drugs or booze then that is on them...not me.

Hell, if I was homeless I would want a beer too.

Also, your friend is just virtue signalling to make sure everybody knows he is a good person. He thinks bible verses and prayer will help the homeless but where was his god before the whole homeless thing happened? It's like praying for somebody who lost their house in a tornado...where tf was god doing before the tornado his? It is always countered with a "we don't know god's will". If his god is real then his god is a dick head.

frick no. I got berated by a meth addict bum in Austin this past weekend because my GF offered his dog some mashed potatoes from our to go box. I would imagine less than 1% of homelessness is not self inflicted.

frick no. I’ll gladly help them get a job though. I’ll fill out the application for them.

Come to think of it that’s a good idea. I might pre-fill a shite pile of Waffle House and McDonald’s applications and keep them with me and hand them out to beggars. They’ll just need to write their name and turn it in.

I try to give them food if I can. I don't trust their financial decisions. They are homeless. I'll give them change if I'm walking. In the winter I'll give them hand warmers.

sometimes.... if they are near a source of food and drink, i'll usually do that instead... something small, but it may be their only meal that day...

If I buy a six-pack of beer and hate it, I give them what's left.

No. I just go buy a bunch of drugs and we do them together. it is awesome to hear their stories about how they got to living on the streets.

It usually starts with doing drugs bought by strangers, but I don't believe that.

A lot of people who are homeless want to be homeless. No liberal wants to hear that, but it's the truth. For the record, I will gladly give food, clothes, or a ride to anyone who needs it. But I will not give money. I don't perpetuate societal problems just to appease emotional guilt.
