Do You Consider a Verbal Invite as a "Must Attend" Invite?

Yesterday was my nephew's second child's 1st birthday. I never seen the kid before. My sister told my mom to invite me to her birthday party, that was earlier in the week.

I forgot about it, but I probably wouldn't have gone anyway. It was a second hand invite. My mom calls me today and was like "why were you not at the birthday party? Your brother was there blah blah blah".. She was telling me this as if I should have been there. I don't feel bad about it, but I don't understand why she was trying to make me feel bad about going... It was a verbal invite the week off the party. Why would I take that serious?

It really all depends on the situation when it comes to a verbal invite, but in general, would you expect someone to attend something if you give them a verbal invite?

I haven't a clue. I'll ask my PR coordinator for her opinion and get back to you.

I guess it just depends on if you're close to the family members involved.

If I didnt have anything already going on I would have gone to be nice. That shite is important to women even though the kid is turning one. They would have bitched either way if you couldn't make it, but just skipping it offends them.

You should be equally ashamed having never seen the child at any point during the other 364 days of his life.

My brother & sister are my half brother and sister, sister is 11 years older than I, brother 10 years older. I was always closer to my brother. My sister's husband is out of his mind and has the most insane political and religious views. When he talks to you, it is pointless to even engage with him because if you don't agree with something he thinks, he will get all worked up.. And his son is becoming just like him.. It's an odd situation.

It's not so much that it was a verbal second hand invite but that you were invited the week of the party. Nobody should expect you to change your plans on such short notice.

Sounds like reason enough not to go. I have a few uncles like that. I find it absolutely irritating when they have to get all worked up over something this politician said or this person did. I've skipped out on family events because of that. And it's not even that I might disagree. I just don't want to get into a debate.

You should appreciate the fact that someone likes you enough to invite you to anything. Because that's kinda surprising.

Stop being a whiny bitch. I am glad I caught your attention you little bitch. This is not a threat, but I just want to let you know that I have several people that would not hesitate to be my muscle if I ever need it

No need to scroll for me. OP downvotes appear at the top of the OP.
