I just bought a Jetta after my TT transmission went out. I'm a homer for VW/Audi and the Audi A4 loaner car I drove while the TT was getting looked at was nice but really don't see why you would pay so much more for one when the Jetta is not that much worse.

I've always heard that the main problems with VW's long-term are electrical issues.

My wife and I will likely be buying a new VW Atlas later this year. Anyone have one and care to share their thoughts?

I just completed the buyback my '09. If I had to buy new car today, I would get a new Alltrack.
No doubt about it, it's a German car. It's great when it works and it's expensive when it doesn't. The dealerships tend to be worse than most brands so specialty shops are a must for work outside of warranty.

Better off sticking with that for this type of vehicle.
If you trust consumer reports, which I do, it's not a bad buy (recommended) but it is at the bottom end of the recommended group. Every Japanese model that is similar except for Mitsubishi is rated higher. Subaru Forestor is top rated on 2017 & 2018 models with the highest owner satisfaction. 2017 Toyota Rav4 has the highest reliability rating

i do own one german car (BMW e30) but i can work on it myself and whenever something breaks its like $20 on ebay because they built 10,000,000 of them.

I tried to talk the wife into that one, but she wanted the Volvo. I trust Germans more than Swedes when it comes to engineering.

yeah, i just noticed they released this mid-size suv. i'd be curious to hear some feedback on it too.
i currently have an outback, but the transmission failed at 65k, so i'm a little put off on the brand you could say.
of course i'm the only person i know with a subaru that has had a bad experience. (full disclosure, i'm cursed) either way i think i want a larger vehicle than the outback, and the atlas popped up in my search. i've just never owned a vw, and after their scandal i'm hesitant. but they do offer one of the better warranties, bumper to bumper 6 years 72k mi i think. i've been reading reviews, and it's getting pretty decent ones. most common complaints have been styling (which i actually kind of like), sort of boring handling (to be expected with the size imo), below average fuel economy, some cheap plastic interiors. none of those are deal breakers for me, but i also don't like going with a new model in its first year. ideally i'd like to give them a couple years to work out any kinks they might have.

I have an 18 year old VW that runs like a champ. Not sure where you heard they fall off a cliff at 100K.

I drive a VW GTI with 150k miles on it. Runs great. Gas mileage is good as well. Only major problems have been the air intake system, but that was covered under a extended warranty.

If it has automatic transmission, avoid it like the plague. They are great cars, but once that transmission fails, they are disasters.
I've heard the manuals are ok, but I wouldn't touch one after my experience.
Most shops can work on Asian and US transmissions and get them good-as-new. Never could find one that could get that German transmission running again, and that includes dealer and specialty shops.
