I couldn't imagine staying off site. Transportation is way too easy from the hotels.

Exactly. The real problem is you can't really go back to the room and take a break in the afternoon. So either you suck it up and do a 11 hour day at the park or just leave at around 6. I like to get to the park before it opens, stay till around 1 or 2, head back to the room for some rest, then hit it up again at night. You can't really do that if you stay off site.

Couldn't pull it off this time, but I plan on staying at one of the EPCOT resorts next trip that way we can walk to either EPCOT or MGM. One day I might stay at a resort on the monorail, but EPCOT is our favorite park.

EPCOT is my favorite too. Not a whole lot for the kids there though. If you have kids you can do that one in half a day. I could spend all day there eating different foods though.

Agreed. We've got about 4 dinner reservations there. Luckily, we don't really have to worry about what he likes and doesn't like just yet.

Yeah, do the stuff you want to now, because in a few years it's all about little ell. Still fun though.

Do... plan what you want to do each day. (Not in advance. You can audible on a day by day basis)
Don't- Go in Summer or warm weather months
- Get a park hopper. Pick a park and stay all day. The transfers and time reestablishing/recalibrating eats time and energy
- Take kids under 5. I know it sounds harsh but I saw no kids under 5 having fun after 10am.
- Think you have to stay on Disney property. We stayed 3 miles away and it was fine.
Have fun

Hire a disabled person to pretend to be part of your family so your kids can skip lines

You got everything backwards

Thinking about Mardi Gras.
Great time to go. It's slow and usually you'll beat the spring break crowds that filter over from Daytona or Cocoa Beach.
It's a slow time there, then it picks up for spring break, slows down after that then picks up for the entire summer.

Just my take on things. We stayed at Marriott properties (3 Bdrm) Condo 4 miles away. Made breakfast and dinner in the unit. Parking was $13.00 a day at Disney. Park hopper was a waste IMO. By the time we hopped were pretty tired. Saw more parents stressed over fussy infants than I care to see in a life time.
I have heard staying on Disney properties is very convenient. I may try it one day. I am not convinced with meal costs it is worth it. Just my opinion.

Go between Thanksgiving and Mardi Gras
Actually on the day after Thanksgiving, Epcot starts it's Candelight Processional and it runs through New Year's. It's a huge draw, as is the Christmas holidays for WDW in general. It gets insanely busy.
But on January 2, the crowds have pretty much disappeared. It happens every year.
Stick with going around Mardi Gras. Perfect time to go.

We didn't do this, but one of my wife's friends got a doctor to write that her son was autistic and waiting in long lines would really upset him... Disney gave him and the family handicap passes for the entire trip.
So if you don't have a conscience... and you child can act a little retarded...
ETA... Oh, I would highly recommend staying on-site in one of the resorts connected by the monorail. The Grand Floridian villas is excellent. You don't have to worry about parking, traffic, and/or tired kids. Just hop on the monorail, go back to your room, the kids can take a power nap, and back to The Magic Kingdom or Epcot. There are buses or personal transport to take you to the other Disney sites.

As did a bunch of other people that were there for the Outback bowl and hung around to go to WDW. It's understandable. (not trying to be disrespectful)
But more often than not, after the 1st, the crowds aren't crazy at all. I worked there for 11 years. I saw it every year. I couldn't wait to get to January 2nd.

Don't: Go on a high school band trip to Walt Disney World, buy a hamburger at the Hattiesburg bus station, get food poisoning, and spend the rest of the bus ride puking into a trash bag.
