Networking. Real old fashion networking, where you talk to people face to face and build "relationships". A lot of members in these types of organizations are members for long periods of time.

I've researched some local ones and despite area population growth, they're shrinking and mostly made up of retired folks. What kind of networking can you do?

I'm the president of our local Rotary Club. The point of rotary currently though is to eradicate polio from the world, which they along with the Gates foundation have done a pretty damn good job of since they began that project.

However, I joined for the networking appeal bc I was new to the town.

I know my grandfather is a member of The Moose Club, he takes me to one in Ohio every time I visit. Pretty sure he just goes to drink and play bingo type rip cards. He is 92 so gives him something to do.

Depends on what your doing, if your a computer programmer then you won't get much benefit. If your an entrepreneur and need investors it's a perfect place to meet people that might have some income to invest. Just depends on what type of networking would be beneficial to you.

I know real estate guys, insurance guys, a guy that owns a medical business, etc and it seems to work for them.

For starters if you're the type that's not exactly one to roll up your sleeves and get involved in your local community, membership in a civic group like that can really help you dip your toe in and find out about local community. A gateway drug to community and civic volunteering.

As previously stated, its also a networking opportunity and a chance to increase "brand awareness" as an entrepreneur in your local community.

It can also never be understated how it appears on a resume. Involvement and accomplishment through these outfits can really burnish your reputation professionally as well.
