Do people really sing to each other IRL?

Theater, movies, and songs all portray people singing dialog to each other but does this ever really happen? I used to have a GF who would always sing to me but they were others song lyrics. I would have run for the hills if she ever sang a conversation to me. So my question then is why do we like to hear people singing in the context of storytelling?

I'm actually listening to Run to the Hills right now. I'm not gonna sing it though.

If I'm trying to drive home a point, it's with a medium-tempo power ballad.

Are you asking if musicals happen in real life?

Yes. It is how Scruffy softens the blow when he delivers bad news to patients.

"You've got AIDS" is much easier to handle when it is put to song.

I just think it's strange that most people, if they were honest, would agree that if someone were singing original dialogue to them, spontaneously created in the moment, that that would be weird. But again the same people usually don't have a problem with someone signing to them, provided that someone has a decent voice. The irony is that when they are singing those actual lyrics to them in most cases those lyrics are in fact designed to re-create an event of someone who is singing a message.

In real life if someone puts a gun in your face you'll be like "oh shite!' and flinch out the way while trying to swat it. You probably won't just freeze there in fear.
