I was hoping to be able to tell Uncle Sam to leave me alone by now, but that crash about 15 years ago set me back a mite and slowed my roll.

I can assure you no OT baller would trade their lifestyle with a lifestyle on food stamps and living for a tax credit, regardless of the taxes OT ballers pay.
However, the issue that most wage earners have is that too many of these "free loaders", at the very least, appear to have it comfortable. Free food, free room, little extra for themselves, all while never going to work.
No food stamp earner is heading to Disney anytime soon.
No one who doesn't have a job, are buying premium football game tickets.
But then there's fraud.....

Oh, and speaking of fraud, I can assure you, without reservation, that the more folks make, the more fraud there is. Sure, everyone loves the new Escalade in the handicap spot at the Walmarks loading up on free food story, and sure that happens.
But what about the millions on the bogus "disability"?
What about all the unreported, under reported income? Bogus charitable donations?
I can go on.

Trust me, the IRS knows. I don't work for them or anything, but it's way too easy to keep records of that stuff.

bullshite. One year someone claimed my sisters ss# and kicked it back on my parents tax return. When they asked how to fix it they said nothing they could do. No way to trace it back. Mom was like wtf... type the number in and find out who claimed her...

Sorry they said. Nothing we can do about it.

The computer system worked, and the SS was apparently only used once.

I'm not going to vouch for people I've never worked with, or an organization I've never worked for, but it sounds like you got fricked over by an incompetent employee.

Just to demonstrate how incompetent the IRS is....

I always got refunds when I was in the Army. I wasn't gonna tell them no. My starting pay was $887 a month before taxes and I was easily working 70 hours a week. I think most enlisted probably get refunds. If you really want to be upset, you should see what happens when you're medically retired and going to school on the new GIBill.

eta-actually my starting pay was $787 a month because they deducted $100 a month if you wanted the GI Bill. That $200 return felt like a big deal back then.

You have to report SSN with every single dependent claimed.

They do. They use other peoples ss# including dead people. You would think the system would set off a red alert when the ss# is entered more than once. I think too many do it and the IRS is too short handed to even make a dent. They know these individuals do not have anything to go after.

It does, but it doesn't stop the fraud. To claim the EITC you have to have earned income. Those who live off welfare/SSI/benefits sell their kids' numbers to people who do have earned income and get paid a couple hundred or so when the check comes in.

I used to prepare taxes; quit because it was so infuriating.

Some sellers never get paid. Some actually came into the office wanting to know when the buyer got the refund and how to make them pay. lol

Others, when they earned enough to file their own taxes, got rejected by the IRS because the buyers were still using the numbers the next year and the next. BIG lol.

It's common knowledge that if you have 2-3 kids you can work just enough not to affect the welfare/foodstamps (and have NO fed taxes withheld), then get a huge check each year.

Or, they can just lie that they're self-employed, file a schedule C, and get the EITC & CTC that way.

People like the above vastly outnumbered those who made a legitimate effort to support their families.

The whole set-up is a racket.
quote:

The Inspector General found that when the SSA asked individuals about their earnings—which could make them ineligible for payments under the Supplemental Security Income program—thousands of individuals disclaimed those earnings.

Over the course of four years, the IG found that nearly 50,000 individuals reported—but later disclaimed—$742 million in self-employment earnings on their tax returns that had previously made them eligible for the EITC or other payments. In over half of these cases, involving $399 million in self-employment earnings, SSA failed to report the disclaimed earnings to the IRS, effectively preventing the IRS from investigating or recovering EITC mispayments averaging $4,053.

A girl I work with has an illegal alien husband and 3 kids. She gets all of the above and I tried using on of our work computers and she saved her turbotax password on the computer in Google chrome. 6k refund. I make 5 times what she does but I know her husband makes a lot in straight cash doing dry wall. Our office is next to a grocery store, she eats way better than I do. Sushi, and whatever else everyday on her food stamps. I wouldn't have a problem so much if it wasn't for the illegal husband.

If he's a citizen's spouse wouldn't that grant him citizenship?

My guess is "husband" is being used in the general sense, not legal. I.E. They live together but aren't actually legally married. This is VERY common so the "wife" can claim she is a single mother and get all kinds of free shite while the "husband" can work, and make money. The government never knows they have any relationship.

Do they get a refund? No. To get a refund, you've first had to have paid money into the system. What they get is just a hand hand out and "redistribution of wealth" With most of this free money coming out of the pockets of middle class workers like myself.

Yeah. She says she is married but maybe in Honduras or something. It would be hard for her to walk away from all that extra money I imagine by doing things the legit way. I don't know much about the immigration laws but I'm pretty sure he won't be getting deported anytime soon.
