Do new boards on TD stifle conversation and activity?

With the new Health/Fitness Board going live a few days ago, I have to wonder if creating new boards really helps with discussions on the site. The Travel Board for example is rather thinly populated with most threads getting a handful of comments.
While the OT certainly includes trolls and shite posters in every thread, there were at least more users active in the threads.

Okay I'll bite
While true, the posts over there are usually more useful than the ones here saying pics or GTFO. It seems like most of the posts on the OT want immediate answers whereas over there they're okay waiting a few days to get some good responses.

New boards will probably get a lot more traffic if you could get to them outside of Beta mode.
