You don't have to, but if you are looking for an excuse to dress nicely.....you won't feel odd dressing up. Like someone else said....depends on venue. Place I saw it at in Tempe I saw people all decked out in evening gowns and suits and tuxes....and also saw others wearing jeans. Even saw a lady wearing crocs
This was a nighttime performance as well.

I enjoyed the music and costumes but I didn't love it overall. I never really liked the movie though, but loved the music so I agree with others--if you love the movie, you'll love the show.
