Slightly long story. Took the family to the new splash pad at Kees park. Was sitting next to a guy who I noticed had a holstered firearm. No big deal. All of a sudden a fat white lady and a fat black guy who are Kees Park Personnel/Volunteers come by and tell them several parents have expressed concern.

I let out a loud "Oh my frickin God!" The lady tells me that if I didn't know the guy I would be feeling different. I tell her I don't know that guy from Adam. The man shows him his DOD ID and his permit and says he is simply open carrying. His wife then explains she is a deputy and she usually open carries but is Pregnant and it was uncomfortable. She said they checked all the signs and there was no Firearm free zone or gun prohibitions. (My own wife later confirmed that on the City of Pinevilles website for Kees Park)

Anyway the fat lady keeps going on about concerns and tells me they are doing it for our security. I tell her that I provide security for my own family and they shouldn't be violating the laws. It's an open carry state. The guy was being calm through this and said he would go put it up and he did. I kept questioning the lady about why they were violating the law? She told me it was a Firearm Free zone they just hadn't put up the sign yet since the new Splash Pad opened Friday. I said BS because Kees park has been open for decades. Well she says screw it I'm calling the cops.

So my family and I leave disgusted at this, and the guy on the way back shakes my hand for having his back. As we are leaving the cops come flying in and officers jump out with Ar-15s running like its a shootout. They escort the guy and his family out. That's disgusting. Don't they know the law? If there are any Pineville PDs on this site they should be ashamed.

What makes more of a fuss, a dad sitting with his wife while his kids play and he happens to be following the law by open carrying a small handgun VS cops flying in with assault rifles? I'd be more afraid of crazed cops armed to the teeth charging into a park full of kids for a guy who was no longer even armed.

TL:DR - Pineville violates a citizens rights and Police use the chance to play Rambo.

Mr drinks cc errywhere. Most times I forget he's even doing it. Open carrying at a spray park with kids is asking for optimum attention.

Eta if I'm at a spray park with my kids and someone is open carrying I'm going to be wary. I'm fine with it but it's going to keep me on my toes.

You're a bitch. It's his right to OC. I either CC or OC a minimum of 2 firearms at all times. Doesn't matter if it's a park or a hospital the law allows me to CC or OC there I'm preserving my right.

No its not. He's retaining the means to protect his family from potential aggressors. It's his right and he's exercising it. Why do you hate guns and gun rights?

You're stupid if you think you're average mom is going to be ok with a guy carrying a weapon at a spray park.

I said above my husband cc errywhere and I support that AND open carry. But it does make moms nervous When they see guns and kids.

Of course it's his right. But it freaks moms out.

And they have the right to leave.

I'm just stating that's why they freaked out.

I don't care how mom's feel when they see my sidearm. I care that I'm able to protect myself and family.

At least the DOD guy was ACTUALLY part of a well-regulated militia.

Which militia are you part of, OP?

This is just an all around fricked up situation, but I do not understand the desire to open carry at the fricking splash pad. If you were going to North Baton Rouge, hell fricking yeah open carry, but you're at the damn splash pad for God's sakes what do you think is going to happen to you?

Someone could attempt to abduct your child and/or use it as a easy place to kill unsuspecting people.

I think open carry is kinda weird and attention whoreish, but they're probably the last people you need to be concerned about.

I lived in Pineville when I was in grad school. It's a shite hole.

Unreal

The guy had a DOD permit and there were no gun free zone signed posted. The cops are in the wrong here.

They have nothing better to do.

Why live with that kind of fear in your daily life? I carry if I know I am going into an environment where I am relatively likely to encounter danger. Broad daylight at the fricking splash pad is not one of those situations in my mind.
