But as described by Jason Wang, an astronomy graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley, researchers think that the four planets may well be in resonance with each other.

In this case it’s a one-two-four-eight resonance, meaning that each planet has an orbital period in nearly precise ratio with the others in the system

I was more impressed by the images captured by the shower cameras in Revenge of the Nerds.

Awesome. Someone made the comment that is a really young star. No chance for life.

So the first planet we see is about 20 AU from that star, that's quite the distance. I'm surprised the planets show up that well in this image, must be rather large

Agree, but keep in mind that the star might also be larger and brighter than our own sun.

Edit: from the HR 8799 link in the OP:

1.5 times the Sun's mass and 4.9 times its luminosity

Man, that planet closest to the star must be on fire.

By the way, is there anyway they can calculate their distances? Like that planet that is furthest away, is that the same distance as Mercury or Venus?

That's simply amazing. I really don't know how people aren't awed by space in general.

So this is roughly 700+ trillion miles away?

I can't wrap my brain around how we can see that far out.

LucasP is right!!!!!!!!!!!!!
