Did I get scammed?

Guy comes up to me, clean cut, well spoken, with ID in hand a car key. Says his car broke down, he has work in 30 mins, and he needs $30 for something about a tow truck company. Normally I shut these guys down with quickness by using the classic "im a college student, dont have the money, blah blah" but this guy seemed genuine so I coughed it up.
Wrote down his name, phone number, where he works, and was very gracious. Im pretty skeptical, but the good samaritain in me couldn't help but think about if I was in a desperate situation and needed the same help. Especially because the guy didn't look like some random methhead like the normal beggars.
So what do yall think? Scammed or no?
Ill call his place of work when they open and see if they have an employee by his name to find out.
UPDATE: Called his "employer" and they never heard of him. Don't give money to a guy who goes by the name Carey Lyons.

It's a fake number, just like the girls in bars used to give me.

Are you expecting to get paid back?

You probably got scammed. Where was his wallet?

Problem with those guys is if you did indeed get scammed, he's ruined it for the next guy who really has a problem.
Take your lumps if you got duped and move on.

where did this take place? Was he near his vehicle or just walk up to you out of the blue? Does the tow company not take credit cards? And where can you get a tow for just $30? did he say he'd pay you back?

There's a sucker born every minute

Did you at least get a tug job?

If you have to ask - you got scammed, baw.

If he was genuine then you came through for him and really helped him out. If not, you're only out 30 bucks. Either way I wouldn't worry about it.

Sounds like you got scammed... no wallet with credit/debit card? He had to call for a tow truck, he couldn't call his work for help or call a friend to help him out?
Seems fishy.

I think it isn't unusual for tow companies to be cash only. I don't deal with them often so who knows. That might just be sketchy places like riverside.

all you can do is go with your gut at the time
I dunno bout you, but my life won't change minus 30 dollars
give it a few days
