re: Detroit man gambles away $1.5 million accidentally given by ATM

Why does this guy only have $300 in his account? I would have thought his paycheck from Fox News would have been much more substantial.

No, I don't. I figure a cashier is going to have to pony up the money when the register doesn't balance at the end of the night. So I give it back.

That, and I'm not a fricking thief.

The young lady's weekly check was in the neighborhood of $27,000, when it should have been around $300. Nobody caught it for 3 weeks, and when they finally did, she quit her job and lawyered up.

They are both in the wrong, but her situation is a little different. The money was actually given to her. ATM guy literally took money.

Might be a thin line though.

I'm surprised he had a checking account in the first place.

This!

He also must have been taking out 4k a day. The bank probably thought damn we making some transactions fees off this fool.

another question. how much of that $1.5 million is overdraft fees. i dont think he should be required to pay them $35 for every ATM transaction he made

Mine is 500 but I think you can get that raised. Either way the max amt allowed must not have been working on his account.

re: Detroit man gambles away $1.5 million accidentally given by ATM
so most likely the guy knew he was gonna have to pay it back, but wouldn't have to pay back any gambling winnings, lost a ton and kept chasing it, because honestly, once ur down 200k in this guys situation ur never gonna be able to pay it back, so he figured he's completely fricked anyway and kept trying to chase it until he lost it all

So it's the banks fault but stealing is legal?

This is the SAME situation as a girl who gets drunk and gets raped. Raping someone is illegal, but she shouldn't have made herself venerable like that.

Personally, I think that BoA deserves worse than this, but that's a different topic for a different board.

This guy stole 1.5 million dollars. He deserves to go to prison.

If he walked into the bank and a teller put $1,000 on the counter and he walked out the bank with the money it is stealing. This is the same thing.

One time during my first semester in college a teller miscounted when I put my paycheck in my account. Check was for around 500 and I asked for 80 dollars in cash back.

Got a deposit slip for 420, and grabbed the cash and wasn't paying attention. Got down the road and realized she had given me 180 dollars cash. I had fun that night

He should have taken all that money... bet it all on black. If he wins then keep the winnings... go to bank and act really dumb and proclaim something must be wrong. Pay bank back all the original money.
