Yes and I read the OP as well.

I'm about at the end of my patience with this common core mess, do I have a local alternative?

Your local alternative: private school. You're welcome for the answer to your question.

And many do not. So find one, enroll your kid, and cut the check. I really don't understand the problem here.

Lord have mercy, we are 44 posts into the thread and not a single person listing a specific school that doesn't use common core

The OT is useless

Because we are not your research team. Go do your own legwork.

Or because you didn't ask for specific names of schools that do not teach common core in the OP. You just asked what your options were, and two valid answers were given: private school or home school.

Why are you people not understanding. I'm ready to pay for private school.

Which ones don't teach common core?

None of them teach the common core method to my knowledge. They do not take the PARCC assessment either. However, they do most likely take the ACT Aspire which was purchased by SAT or visa versa. either way, the SAT/ACT test is starting, as of this year, to mirror the PARCC assessment in many ways. It will take time for many Private school to change their way of teaching to get kids to be successful answering PARCC style questions especially the TASKS associated with each subject. Many private school teachers left public for 2 reasons: Discipline and Testing. They do not want to change the way they teach to accommodate the new tests. They want to stick to the old stand an deliver method of lecture in the classroom which often works due to the clientele in the room.

Without knowing your exact issues with Common Core it is difficult to advise you on this subject.

I'm pretty sure the Catholic schools are using Common Core standards. Your best bet would probably be one of the smaller (non-parochial) schools, but then you may be sacrificing the quality of education for the "non-Common Core" ideal.

Here's a though: figure out what schools are in your price range or geographical range, then pick up the phone and call them to ask if they use Common Core guidelines.

Can't they opt out of PARCC testing? I don't have any students that age, but for k-8 the tests are optional if you opt them out, aren't they?
