This was my first major, after hearing all semester everyone of my teachers saying "you have to know people in this business to get a start" and then realizing that I know no one, I decided against that career path

I have one and I don't work in sports. You have to be willing to get your masters and probably a law degree. Find me one sports exec that has this degree.....I thought it sounded cool at the time, big mistake. I like my job currently and having a degree helped me get it, but unless you want to be a college coach or work for less than minimum wage the degree is worthless.

Yes I do. He actually has a degree in Sports Administration and he married my high school girlfriend who I still keep in touch with. He is now a commissioner for one of the Division II college football conferences.
He makes 2 million a year.
Absolute BS. There is only one D2 conference that has a total operating budget of over $2 million. Most of the D2 conference offices have 2-3 employees working on one of their member's campuses.
In fact, I am good friends with a guy that is an Assistant AD at a D2 school. He tells great stories about how his conference commissioner would spend most of his time peddling a book he wrote about the New York Yankees to supplement his income. Oh, and at one time, this conference was the SEC of Division II conferences.

Got a business marketing degree at LSU. Dropped out of accounting and finance before settling on it. Worst decision of my life. In law school now so things are looking up. Either get an engineering degree or a finance/accounting degree and get a damn job when you graduate. Four years of screwing around with a BS major is not worth the unemployment line after you graduate. Put in a little more effort on the front end.

Get a useful degree. You can still try and work in sports since your degree is useless in that field. This way if it doesn't pan out you have a degree worth something.

Sport management degrees gets you into ticket sales
Business/Finance/analytics type degrees are what all sport teams are turning too these days. This curriculum partnered with some sport related internships would benefit you.
If you decide to go down the sport admin path, you must start doing internships the moment you arrive on campus. Do one every summer with a different organization. Teams are always looking for interns. Work with your University's AD during the school year. Do anything you possibly can. I cannot stress this enough if you want to land a job upon graduation. It's become such a competitive field that experience will decide whether you get the job or not.

What do you want to do in sports?
The straight answer is it probably doesn't matter if you get a degree in Sport Managment or something else. You'll start at the bottom, work shitty jobs with shitty hours and shitty pay. But if you stick with it, take any opportunity you're given, and create some of your own, you can be successful.
If you're really interested in getting in to sports, minor league baseball is the best place to start. You'll have to opportunity to see all facets of the business, and create a direction for yourself from there.
My qualifications: non-Sport Management degree, two seasons minor league baseball clubhouse manager. I met very few people high up the food chain with Sport Management degrees. Take that for what it's worth.

Don't expect anything over $40k a year.
