We have a 10 month old that is currently being watched by a babysitter. She is great with him but we would like to get him around other babies/ infants in the next few months. We were hoping for a place that could transition into a school, but those don't seem to exist. The closest that we found is the elan vital montessori school, which accepts 18 month olds. We know he can't really learn anything right now, but will be able to at 2 or 3. We thought that a school type atmosphere and being around other kids would help him alot at that age. Any recommendations?

Why?

Meh. Keep 'em alive until their 5 and then start worrying about stuff like this. It's almost literally irrelevant to your child's outcome.

Why do you want him around other kids?

One to one is perfect if you can do it. I don't think there's a great need for socialization at such a young age. If that's the reason, do some Mother's Day out or church stuff

Holy crap balls our 11 month old has been in a day care for 2 months and the difference is tremendous. He was being watched one on one, but health reasons forced us to stop that. The socialization has been great. May be a one off, but for us it was a great move.

Only downside is the cost of a good daycare is pretty high and most good ones have waiting lists unless you are lucky.

If the kid can't read by 2.5, it's a lost cause, and he has no future.

Fwiw

I'm actually doing everything I can to keep my daughter AWAY from other kids. The way this country is headed she'd probably already be doing pot if I left her at one of those places

you're a good dad

Kengel, it's probably because the poor baby got used to being neglected at daycare and is now happy to get any attention

Yes we are in Baton Rouge.

My sister and I were never around other kids until school. We were extremely shy and didn't adjust very well the first couple of years of school. Now we talk way too much and are major extroverts. We think it might have been from not being around other kids.

I don't know about pot, but she'd definitely be twerking, whipping it, and doing the nae nae.

I'm not sure it makes that much of a difference in terms of socialization/adjustment to a school environment.

The biggest benefit might be building up their immune systems.

Expensive and the owner can be kind of a bitch, but my kid learned a lot and loved his teachers.
