All 1920x1080 are not created equal. Bluray video is 1080p, but I could rip a 1080p bluray and keep the resolution, but it looks like shite. It's all about the compression (and at 20-40gb on disc, bluray videos are already compressed).

i am (well i was anyway) a high-quality aficionado.

i wont bore you with the details; but a high quality BR 1080p rip including subtitles, multiple HD audio tracks, etc. is between 30 & 50GB.

yes you can find shithole 1080p movies around 1-2GB compressed to frick.

if a movie is worth having on my local media server, its worth getting a GREAT copy IMO. YMMV PIIHB alpha not beta, comcast stacked cad fuuuucked, LLotOT, germans and IDGAF

I live in the sticks and have no option but satellite. I have HughesNet and have a 500MB/day limit. Wouldn't do me any good to have more so that I could stream movies, it's too slow. All that great service for a measly $76.69/mo.

Yes, they do, and they're about to get worse. You'll hear all kinds of BS excuses about population density and so forth, but the bottom line is other countries treat their ISP's as public utilities and regulate them accordingly. We let them operate with very little oversight. And they'll have even less oversight with the end of net neutrality.

I'm in the category of not knowing if I have a limit or not. I am with EATEL and haven't taken the time to look at my service agreement.

You do not.

At my small business I splurged and bought a 50 meg dedicated ethernet connection. This is not really related to data caps..I just wanted to brag.

so you'll enjoy this.

comcast is competing with "The Gig" in Chattanooga right? unless you live under a rock, you have heard of this as the first successful GIG connected city in the US.

ok, so there were 2 major components to the 'gig' promise.

1. cheap fiber/no cap for all; DONE
2. free WiFi hotspots at businesses all over Chattanooga; NOT DONE

the muni doing the GIG has had technical and logisticial issues getting the WiFi component off the ground.

so guess what? comcast has swooped in and done this instead. basically locked up all the local businesses with their 'free hotspot' service.

so what does that mean?

a. comcast JACkED UP the price of internet in chattanooga, rather than down.

b. comcast allows non-users 3 hours PER MONTH free of hotspot usage. after that you pay out the nose for using it.

c. comcast customers (see a) get the 'all over town' free WiFi if they already have xfinity****

****you're going to love the punchline here; comcast ADDS YOUR WiFi usage to your 250GB data cap. so careful next time you're in chattanooga watching youtube at starbucks
