Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro called a city ordinance that lowered penalties for pot possession “stupid” during a talk at a meeting of the Rotary Club of New Orleans on Wednesday. Speaking in response to a Rotarian’s question, Cannizzaro suggested that both marijuana users and dealers will flock to the city in response to the ordinance, which made first-offense marijuana possession punishable by a $40 fine.

I really can't wait until we legalize it nationwide and put all this behind us. It amazes me how elected officials still view it as "the devil's lettuce".

Yeah, the marijuana users would rather go to New Orleans where it's still illegal vs Alaska, California, Colorado, DC, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington where it is completely legal.

Those kids minding their own business smoking a j are a much bigger problem than the thousands of drunks roaming around

I doubt the law changes much. I've seen people taking pot down there before. And smelled it.

Oh the horror.

This should be the last thing on the priority list of the Orleans Parish DA.

He's a piece of shite drug warrior. His office is disgusting to deal with. Remember, this is the POS who went all the way to the Supreme Court to make sure a pothead named Bernard Noble got maximum 13 years prison for weed possession instead of being happy with 7 years. He should never beg for more resources bc he wastes more time on nonsense than any DA I've ever seen.

I work in the CBD and see it daily on my walk from the parking garage. Not an exaggeration. No one gives a shite. That's how it should be.

The amount of political grandstanding that Cannizzaro puts on is disgusting.

Propaganda works especially when money can be made off of it. He is basically saying we are getting way less money than they would/should be. Dude is a grade A dumb arse. How about keeping murderers and rapists in jail where they belong instead of out within a few days? Freaking tard.
