Should I shut off the main power to my house if water starts coming into my house?

Most that will happen is that once water hits any power source, it will trip the breaker. Or should. I would keep it on IF I were still in the house. Leaving, power down.

Yes. Entergy spokesman said main issue after floods was damage internal to homes preventing restoration of power.

Yes.

However, when the water goes down and you know it will stay down turn it back on so your fans and ac can start getting the humidity out asap.

If you know water is coming, you can try plastic wrapping your outlets and covering with gorilla tape, it'll keep casual water out but no promises if water covers it for long periods of time. Your breakers will trip when water comes up, but cutting power will help.

Should all be good there. Cell phone service is still down for most, but my daughter was able to get thru our land line about an hours ago. Oh, she lives there.

when you cut your power, trip all the small breakers first, then the main...when you turn things back on, turn the main on, then the individual breakers...
