People with custom closets, did you order them online and have a contractor put them in or did you go to a local custom closets store and have them do it? Any recommendations around Nola if used an in store place? TIA

I went to easyclosets.com. I just entered my dimensions and the basic shape I wanted, and it brought up a template. From there, I was able to customize how I wanted each unit. There are multiple options (wood color, hardware, etc.) was very satisfied with it and did them in every closet in my house. Looks professionally done. One caveat: be extra careful with your measurements. I was ½" long on one wall and had to do some modifying.

Installation is really easy. Need to find your studs and lay the track. From there, everything hangs off the track. Instruction booklet it comes with explains everything very well. Customer care was great; they call a day or so after the order is placed to confirm everything including measurements. And they quickly ship missing parts (only happened once in my 4 orders).

Call Jay Pritchett or his daughter Claire. Their family has been in the closet business for decades.

Closet building is very precise. But after you do one it's easy. Iwould do it myself if I were you.

You could closet an entire house for about 1K with tools, wood, paint, and hardware

Is Jay Pritchett with Closets Closets Closets? That rings a bell from somewhere.

On a serious note, I'm surprised people have found it easy to install their own closets. If this is the case I might get them in every closet and just do it myself.

Whatever you do, don't call Closets Closets Closets Closets. It is owned by a rolodex-stealing bastard.

Are you building a house?

If so have the contractor solid sheet your closets with 1/2" plywood and then cover with sheetrock. Tell him you won't be needing him to do any kind of shelves in the closet. Then go to Lowes and buy all the stuff to do it. With solid sheeting you can hang the supports anywhere you want them, you're not limited to being on the studs. I did 5 closets in my house this way. They came out great and they are adjustable to the kids needs.

I had a good experience with easy closets also. Their online design tool works well and everything installed per the drawings.

The turnkey prices I was getting were anywhere from 2x-4x of the easyclosets with DIY install.
