Currently laid off from oilfield related job, time to move?

Like many others I work in a business that is directly related to the oilfield and I've been laid off from a job I've had for 15 years. My mindset was I was going to wait for a couple of months until the unemployment benefits run out and then reevaluate things but I really don't see the oilfield turning around that quickly. I'm single with no kids and I own my home that I really like and it's about halfway paid off. I was recently offered a job in Silicon Valley near San Jose with a starting salary around 130k. I had already done research about the area and I talked to the owner of the company who seems like a really nice guy and he reaffirmed what I had already found out. Living in that area I would probably never own a home unless I wanted to commute 2 hours each way to work and I really hate living in apartments. I'm having a really difficult time with the decision and would appreciate any input. Please no politics.

Unless family and local ties are really important to you, I would take the Silicon Valley job. You’re making 130K base salary.

Go take risks can’t sit around for oilfield to come around.

Go to California.
At least have a job.
Get a nice apartment which is guess runs $2500/month. But, at 130k can still live nice life.
Give it a year or two.
If wanna I return you can do so then.

That may be true but getting paid is better than not having a job. Since you’re single no kids I wouldn’t wait around for oil jobs to open up. Explore a little while you still can.

The cost of living would basically double with the move. My home would be easy to sell but riding the oilfield roller coaster is getting really old.
edit: I was thinking of just renting out my current home in case I find out I made a huge mistake.

If you want to stay in the oilfield then West Texas is your best bet but even that is drying up but right now they have 200 plus rigs running out there

Although it is a really neat place, you won't be able to do much around Silicon Valley on just $130k a year and California taxes. Double that salary and it would be doable for a single guy.
Look into Austin if your skill set fits a Silicon Valley type job environment.
The oil business isn't coming back anytime soon, you seem young enough to get out now and not look back.

Which is the equivalent of making 48k in Lafayette. He's single and out of work and that is a beautiful area though.

Take the gig man...despite what people say NoCal is great its just terribly expensive. Give it two years and economy will be back. You don't want to sit around unemployed.
