The OP was comparing a high deductable plan with a coompletely different Silver plan. It's apples and oranges.

Based on my situation the silvers were like $160ish and the platinums were like $230ish. It would be dumb not to get the platinum IMO.

Maybe I am lucky because I am single and live where I do but for a self-employed person this is a pretty good deal...FOR NOW

Yeah, that doesn't exist at those prices in LA. I'm paying pretty much the same as you and deductible and costs are WAY higher. But that said, it's still better than what I had for less money.

Still think I don't understand? You want to actually add something useful here? Because you are starting to piss me off telling me I do not understand.

Yes. I still don't think you understand, but there is no reason to get pissed off because it's not like I think you are stupid. You will not get an accurate comparison the way you are doing it. There is more to it than finding something that almost fits your current plan.

Every situation is different and if the numbers work you would be stupid not to get the platinum plan. The self employed could get heavy subsidies and tax credits because of how they file their taxes. Many show very little to no income. I can foresee the IRS really scrutinizing the self employed's tax returns with many audits coming in the future.

Alright, no big deal.

Obviously not gonna matter for me anyway since my employer pays 90% of my healthcare coverage costs right now.

Thats true but I claim enough not to get any subsidies. It doesn't take much to reach 4 times the poverty level if you are single!

$700 per month for three of us. $12,700 out of pocket, which would bankrupt us.

It's telling me I'd pay $680.84 per month with the same $12,700.00 out of pocket on top of that. And just like you, that would ruin our finances.

They're making it to where we'll be better off to just quit our jobs and take our place sucking on the government teat. The middle class will be extinct within a decade if this abomination known as as Obamacare is actually fully implemented.

I don't know why anybody would be for anything that makes american citizens have to pay for something. If you don't want insurance then you shouldn't have to get it. It's the biggest scam ever placed on the American public.

But then again I'm all for freedom

i remember insurance use to be a good thing. When I first came out of the army and started working here, family coverage BC/BS insurance was like $25 per week. That covered you, your wife and every kid you had, no matter how many it was. If you went to the doctor, it cost you $20.00. Your prescriptions cost you $10.00. A hospital stay cost you $100.00.

Now though that same insurance is several hundred a month, and really about the only good thing I can say about it is it will probably (note I said probably) keep you from going bankrupt if you have a catastrophic medial event... (aka any hospital stay lasting more than the average doctor office visit)
