Today being the anniversary and all, I got to thinking of all the craziness I saw after Katrina in New Orleans. So many wild stories come to mind, but what were the craziest/shadiest/scariest things some of you guys saw/heard of going on in the aftermath of Katrina?

The extra 8 people living in my house for up to 6 months. That shite will NEVER happen again.

Traffic being dead stopped for days causing people to just abandon their cars on I10 in BR. Thats when I knew it was gonna be a major infrastructure problem for a loooong time.

The parking lots around the old Siegen movie and the gas stations near there had a "Day After" vibe. Watching people fight for gas was not something we expect to see.

For me was all the people stuck in the convention center and the super dome days after the hurricane. There should have been help sent over right after the storm even though they were told to evacuate the city.

Some of the stories from inside that place, that must have absolutely been hell on earth in there.

The overall shock of it all. The houses in the middle of the street in St. Bernard. The lights on the gno and the city being off. The overall feel that everything in certain areas were devastated. Very weird times.

One of my personal favorites was when I talked to some execs from Hibernia Bank who were standing around a branch across from where we were staying on the West Bank. They related that while others were out looting TV's, shoes and other BS, some enterprising individuals used a truck and chain to pull out of the ground and steal all of the detached ATM's at their branches. They were laughing that with no power to set off the alarms or power the video cameras whoever did it got away clean. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of unmarked random bills while others were stealing TV's and cell phones that wouldn't work with the power off.
Noted for the next big storm.

Pretty sure a bank would have battery/ generator back up? It’s not the old school movies where you can cut the power and the security system goes down right?

Really, the smell of rot, even 6 months later.

My neighbor stayed. First chance we could come home, we pull up to the house and first thing I notice was a pirogue with a bow rope tied to his upstairs window, just hanging there. Idk why but that was just surreal to see and immediately I went to wtf was going through his mind when he was tying that knot.

The cops realizing more important shite than speeding was going on. I was driving back to my parents house in Covington from LSU (it was my freshman year) to help them clean up and I took 190 to avoid possibly closed interstates.
A state trooper passed me doing 90 mph with a line of 15+ cars behind him. I hopped in line and did 90 mph all the way until I got close to Covington high.
