Ah, another of the "What's wrong with America" threads.

Fox New Link

A longtime spokesman for the state court system accidentally butt-dialed a Post reporter — yukking it up about how “I barely show up to work” while pocketing a $166,000-plus salary and boosting his taxpayer-funded pension.

After speaking by cellphone with the reporter about a planned exposé on his cushy schedule, David Bookstaver butt-dialed back, and unwittingly left a four-minute voicemail while chatting with at least two other people.

On the voicemail, Bookstaver admitted lying to The Post about how he spent his weekdays and confirmed the accounts of court-system sources who said he’s been working as few as two days a week.

Bookstaver, who’s planning to retire Oct. 1, also raised the possibility he could get fired “because of a story in The Post,” but said it “would probably affect my pension check by $6 a month.”

“Look, the bottom line is, I’ll suffer through a terribly embarrassing story and then go get my f–king pension and retire,” he said.

Pensions should be demolished.

It's a baby boomer tactic that now Millennials have to pay for.

I agree with this. All Govt pension should be turned into a 401K type retirement, and figure out how to put in an amount for each worker based up on their current salary/tenure.

This cannot be said strongly enough.
Virtually all private corporations have done away with them, but lazy arse government workers get them? Absolutely atrocious.
And not to mention, many of these people can retire at age 50 and get full pension.

The pensions themselves aren't really the problem - it's the fact that everyone kicked the can down the road in terms of funding them and now it's coming to a head. They can be great if managed responsibly, but those are difficult to find. But I agree that governments should get away from them - too much risk to the public when they fail.

You know anyone personally that works for the government to make such a sweeping statement?

I've never heard anyone on this board complaining about how OT rich they are - and the bare minimum amount of work they do. Weird.

Doesn't Shell or Exxon still run a retirement pension system?

i worked gov and did 10-11 hour days without lunch most of the time.

i understand and agree with your sentiment. the majority of the people i worked with were lazy and barely there to collect a paycheck. which is why i advanced farther than anybody that started before me.

that being said, 2% raises for busting your arse gets old.

True, but that is a problem between the employee and their employer. When your employer is the local, state, or federal government, it becomes the problem of the public at large.

I'd be more surprised if a government worker came out and said that he/she actually went to work for 40 hours a week.
