it amazes how dumb TPOS really are. They're getting question by the police regarding a murder and still talk without counsel.

It is not an intelligence issue. It is a mental stress/pressure issue. Most people are not wired to kill. Having said that, being stupid.....well, low hanging fruit and all.

Couple of videos that are worth watching. Pretty long, so not many will watch them, but you should. The first is a professor who explains why you should never talk to the police, and how police can twist things even innocent people say into damning evidence. LINK

The second is the confession of Russell Willams, A Canadian Air Force officer who was convicted of killing two women. The detective gets him to voluntarily admit to the murders just by talking to him. No coercion, no tricks, just talking. Williams was a very smart, very capable, very sophisticated guy, and he was putty in the hands of a skilled interrogator. This guy got what he deserved, but it illustrates that if you are in an interview room, you are a target, and everything they say and do is designed to get you to admit damaging information about yourself. And they are very good at what they do. LINK

I've watched First 48 enough to know the only thing I am saying is

"I want a lawyer."

Police "Hello bird how are you this morning."

That show is interesting in the fact that it shows you how much those detectives bluff

Yep. Anyone who has been in that situation, guilty or not, has an entirely different perspective from people who are just speculating. It's pretty eye-opening. Maybe my life's single most eye-opening experience.

Wow. Really eye-opening stuff. Both of your links go to the same video- the professor discussing why you shouldn't talk to the police. I'd like to see the video of the Canadian Air Force officer though. Can you post that link?

I said after I went through a fraternity initiation over 40 years ago that I believe if I was a POW and had to go through worse than what I went through for three days, that I would provide the enemy EVERYTHING they wanted.

Whether it's truthful or not. That's the problem with torture as a means of obtaining useful intel. The victim will say literally anything to make it stop.

How anyone could watch his "confession" and still convict him is beyond me ... and is exactly why if I'm ever on trial for something crazy that I didn't do, I'm demanding a bench-trial.

US law grants immunity from prosecution for any secrets revealed after 72 hours in captivity for this very reason.

This. If you've just been accused of a crime, the police are NEVER on your side. Thinking you can just clear things up and get out quickly is what does a lot of people in.

That's why you envoke your right to remain silent. (5th Amendmant) and immediately request counsel. Under any and all circumstances, you never, and I repeat never, talk to the Police, especially if you know you're innocent and the cops are playing games. Most Cops are sociopaths, especially detectives who want a conviction and will stop at nothing to get one. Their main cause is to compile enough evidence against the person "they think" is guilty and let the court system handle the process from that point, moving forward. I don't know about you, but I'd have better results at a Craps table in Vegas than to trust my freedom with some dumbass, uneducated jury.

Are there innocent people behind bars because of some a-hole detective, that built enough "circumstantial" evidence against someone who decided to speak with them in the first place without adequate legal representation? There sure are, and facts to substantiate this.

Bottom line, if the cops wanted to speak with me about a crime I knew damn-well I wasn't a part of, I wouldn't speak with them and evoke my 5th Amendment right to remain silent. I would consult with an Attorney with the quickness.
