I need to brush up and this article just reminded me of this...a legislator from Ville Platte revived someone at the Capitol yesterday

Are you employed by the Federal Bureau of Redundancy Agency Association?

Not anymore. They seem to have changed everything.

Had to learn it back in the day but I doubt much has changed. So I'm sure I could, is it still 30 compressions to 2 breaths? If so I could be a life saver, depending on your age, sex, weight and socioeconomic status

Maybe if they stopped changing the recommendations every year

Yes.

Tilt their head back, clear their airway, and start pumping on their chest like crazy.

I took a class last summer for work, and they taught us to pump 30 times then give them a breath, but I just heard someone say the other day that they don't recommend the breaths anymore. Just compressions?

yes, however not everyone certified would be able to do it imo.

some people freeze in those types of situations even if they know what to do.

Yes. It's not like the movies so if you don't know what you're doing, back off and let someone trained take over.

Just sing staying alive by the Beegees, and you'll remember.

I went through a quick training a few weeks ago, and they did say no more breaths. Just compressions. We were mainly training on an AED but the topic of normal CPR came up as well.

Sure I can, and have, but it was a basic and not uncommon part of my career for a very long time. I also taught it for a lot of years. Some people simply freeze or develop a case of...well, you know...and can't do it.

A dullard told me once that when he had the opportunity / misfortune, he chose not to atempt CPR...because his card was expired and he didn't want to get into any kind of trouble...pause for a second and let that sink in.

That's where good samaritan law kicks in.

ya probably I've never done it but seen it enough in movies. Tilt the head, three breaths, pump the chest and repeat

- i think thats how they taught us in elementary school anyway

Any attempt is better than no attempt.

Correct, scooba.

The compressions are much more important than the breaths now. People have enough oxygen in the blood system that it's important to keep blood pumping throughout the body.

30/2 still holds true, but the emphasis is on proper compressions. It's CAB now.

I used to be certified by the Red Cross as a CPR/first aid instructor. Some of the recommended procedures have changed but I think I could still help get someone out of trouble.
