Cost to widen entryway joining two rooms

Kitchen to dining room. Standard door opening size (door has been done away with) and will be opened up 12" on either side for about a 5' wide opening.
Single story home with maybe some weight from roof above entryway.
Floor is small tile and some will need to be harvested from under fridge to fill in exposed area from jambs being moved.
Light switch will also need to be moved over.
Both sides of walls have chair-railing and small 1 1/2" crown molding if that matters.
quoted $450 but that seems a bit high IMO

Doesn't seem high to me at all.

Sounds extremely reasonable if you ask me.

That sounds like a great price. Mexicans? Better make sure they know what they're doing and it's not load bearing (although just 12" likely will not be an issue)

Drywall, paint, finish trim, wall framing, and floor work. 5 trades for under $500 sounds like a bargain.
Edited to add I forgot electrical. 6 trades

I thought it cost at least 5 grand just to say the word "remodel."

Seriously? How low did you think you'd get this price?

Hard to even get them to come out for less than that

well crap, maybe I should jump on it.
Guy is just a handyman and will do all work himself.
Just to be clear there are no doors involved-just the opening.

$450, high???
A lot of master remodel guys wouldn't go to your house to take a shite for $450.

You better get that contract signed tomorrow. Tonight if you can. But make sure you aren't taking down a load bearing wall.
Posted on 4/7/16 at 9:24 pm to Chuker
Take that and run with it...... Damn good price to do all that.

The OT continues to amaze. I thought the quote would be $2,599. Send that dude my way after.

Did the handyman go into your attic to ensure that it's not a load bearing wall?

uh, this isn't a "master remodel" guy, just a handyman.
And yes, he went into attic to look at supports and where to rerun switch wire.

You should be good. That's a solid days work with probably a comeback or two to paint and touch up. Is the opening going to be cased? If so he can probably knkck out everything in 1 day..

Widen an opening a total of 2 feet (likely need some reinforcement)
Tile work (Remove and replace)
Electrical switch relocation
Finishing
Quote: $450
I actually think that's low. You better check licenses and get a guarantee. I got a quote recently to simply replace an exterior entry door (not including door) and the guy wanted $350.

I see you're in the Land Mass.
That would explain the missing decimal place in the price.
If you are comfortable with the guy's prior work, jump on that deal.
Good luck.
