not sure the tax monies being given to these companies is offset by the money they spend here. None of the other boondoggles have been effective.

Do you think Texas doesn't offer incentives for corporate re-locations?

No Jindal is just giving Louisiana away while LSU goes bankrupt. We need to be more like Texas. Rabble Rabble Jindal Rabble Rabble

quote:

exas offered Toyota $40 million to move, part of a Texas Enterprise Fund incentive program run out of the governor's office. At $10,000 a job, it was one of the largest incentives handed out in the decade-old program and cost more per job created than any other large award. Last year, Texas spent about $6,800 to lure each of 1,700 Chevron Corp. positions to Houston and $5,800 for each of 3,600 Apple Inc. jobs shifted to Austin.

Texas pays Toyota $10,000/job and nobody says a word.

The new global headquarters for Brown & Root will be located at 2600 Citiplace Dr. on Corporate Boulevard. The company is expected to bring a total of 925 jobs in Louisiana over the next decade.

"Louisiana's talent in the industrial services sector ranks second to none, and this major headquarters announcement demonstrates what we know so well: Louisiana offers the best business climate, workforce talent and infrastructure assets in the world when it comes to building the future," said Gov. Bobby Jindal in a statement. "We welcome Brown & Root to Baton Rouge, and we're proud that this venture will create hundreds of great new jobs for families in our capital and throughout the state of Louisiana."

To secure the project, Louisiana offered Brown & Root a tax incentive package which included a $1.8 million grant to reimburse relocation costs and lease support for the corporate headquarters. Brown & Root will also receive help from LED's FastStart workforce development program and the state's Quality Jobs PRogram.

$1,800,000/925jobs = $1,945.95/job and the anti-Jindal ppl are shitting themselves. Only in a state filled with plant workers and swamp hicks do we criticize progress.

Sadly, this game of tax breaks for corporate relocations is played all over the country. Louisiana just gets more to show for it than most.

Can we give the corporation back to Houston in exchange for one of their loops?

Wonder what this means for CB&I staying in BR.

CB&I had a bunch of RIFs in Baton Rouge today. I wonder what happened to the money they received 18 months ago or so for bringing all kinds of full time jobs to LA?

Your math is pure shite.

This particular transaction is for 50 jobs. They mentioned all those other jobs because it's a press release. The state will have to buy those separately.

So that's $36k per job and then you conveniently forgot to count the money they get from the Quality Jobs program which is another million (15k+ per job) easily with potentially more perks that we aren't privy to. Executive privilege, and all.

How do you know the state will have to buy those jobs? Nothing in the article says anything about having to increase the payout for more jobs.

Even if the $1.8million was for the just 50 jobs. Those jobs average almost $192,000/yr.

Like I said earlier, only in Louisiana ppl would bitch and whine so much about progress.
