This is one of those terrible things that stuck.

A fan of one of Nebraska's rivals (probably Oklahoma, but maybe Colorado) - wrote this tripe about Nebraska and it circulated - I think I saw it in the very, very early days of the "internet".

Well, it wasn't funny (I think Paige's link is to the correct text) - as you can tell. Anyway, one of Auburn's "special" fans, thought it was funny. And thought it was so funny that he just replaced "Nebraska" with "LSU" and "Lincoln, Nebraska" with "Baton Rouge, Louisiana" - making it even less funny - after all, WTF do we have to do with corn or corndogs? Now - I'll admit that Louisiana grows a decent amount of corn, but it's certainly not something we're known for.

I mean, he could have replaced corndog with, "Gator shite", crawfish boil, bourbon, swamp gas - ANY fricking thing that might make you think about LSU and/or Baton Rouge.

But, nope - he stuck with the corndog. And it's been amazingly unfunny, yet persistent for at least 10 to 12 years now (heck, maybe more).

I'm not mad. It's just not funny.

It was originally from the Texas v Oklahoma rivalry (i think) and Auburn being unoriginal as frick stole it.

I drive to Baton Rouge almost weekly. Many times when crossing the Mississippi River bridge i was appalled at this smell. I always thought it came from the Community Coffee plant..but maybe its that smell of corndogs emanating across BR?

Thanks for the link but I'm pretty sure the corndog legend goes back much further.

Whenever I hear some other team's fan make some statement about LSU and corndogs I silently laugh. It's like taunting UL-L fans about their presumed love for mockingbirds. There'd be nothing wrong with it and surely a handful do love them, but it's an odd thing to associate specifically with UL-L fans.

People have said way worse things about me that are actually true, so I honestly don't care if people say I smell like a corn dog. They're delicious.

Have you ever crossed the bridge driving west in Lake Charles?

I do that drive almost weekly too. But I've never noticed THAT smell in Lake Charles. You can definitely smell sulphur sometimes, other gases sometimes, but it just not that burn your nose smell of what has now been explained as corndog in BR.

I don't get why so many people associate LSU with corn dogs. I grew up in BR and probably saw fewer than five the entire time. Is it something from great-grandpa's days?
You had a very sad childhood.

This.

I have actually embraced it. I haven't a clue why any one would get upset about it.

I'm not sure how it's supposed to be an insult, really. There must be people who get mad about it though, or it would just die.

The people using it as an insult find it a lot funnier than it really is.

Maybe not in BR, but you missed the great corn dog truck spill of 2014 on
I-220 in Shreveport...it was epic. Over 75K corn dogs perished that evening..."it's a damn shame what they did to the dog".
