Yeah that's the main reason I haven't switched. Get a corporate discount, plus unlimited data/fast as frick internet when I bundle wireless/internet/TV with AT&T. If I could find a better deal that'd give me the internet I want and unlimited data, i would probably cord cut (we watch Netflix more than anything....TV service only really gets used for sports in my house). Haven't really seen much better out there right now, but it's not off the table for me by any means.

Here is a screen cap from my Cox monthly bill.

This is the no contract price. I can cancel tomorrow with no repercussions.

A sharp eye notices I don't have HD DVR or that crap. I do have a CableCARD plugged into an HDHomeRun that decodes the CableCARD and sends it to a computer running Windows Media Center which then pushes the cable out via router to all my Fire TV/ Sticks/RaspberryPis/phones/tablets. So I do save some money this way rather than paying per month for DVR and other Cox crap.

They will get their money out of you in one way or another eventually. Charging premium prices for internet without a bundled deal.

Shite you'd be paying upwards of 300 bucks for all that from Cox in BR
I just uncut the cord and signed back on with Cox.

Gold Duo package --$159/month
300mbps internet
380+ channels (including HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, sports package)
HD DVRs in 2 rooms

Was paying $143 ($88/150mbps internet and $55 for PS Vue w/HBO and Cinemax). Plus PS Vue is fixing to go up $12/month.

So I doubled my internet speed, got every channel I could ever need, and now I can stop fricking with the antenna that never catches CBS for $5 more per month. Also, no more switching between this app and that app and the antenna and that other app to watch tv.

Also, streaming football blows. Biggest deciding factor.

That shite will be over $200/month before 2019.....especially if, like you say, you don't have a contract.

Part of what happens when most people cut the cord is they start watching fewer things in general. After a while you realize how much shite you watched just because, how much time was wasted on things you wouldn't go out of your way to watch if it wasn't just there on a path of least resistance.

yup

stopped watching everything but game of thrones and the occasional college football game a few years ago. life is a much happier place because of it

Mine did, so I called and tried to cancel. They gave me my rate back. I've had the same $150 rate through uverse for almost 4 years now. 1 gigabit internet, and 300ish channels on 3 HD DVRs.

I know the response, you shouldn't have to threaten to cancel to get your rate, but that's the way it works. If they say no, tell them to just cancel it. They'll put their supervisor on real fast and give you what you want.

When that happens I will threaten to leave for AT&T. If Cox doesn't play ball, I'll go to AT&T for a package similar to what I have now.

You can't convince me that cord cutting is cheaper (for someone who wants SEC network) without sharing passwords. Not really possible.

They either renegotiate or I go to DirecTV. Or I bite the bullet and cut the cord again for a year.

SO to recap...cutting the cord is a pain in the arse. I'll pay $5 more for one year for convenience and a ton more content. Then I'll pay $20 more for the 2nd year for convenience and a ton more content. At which point the streaming services have probably jacked their prices up because...

I'll cross the year 3 bridge when I get to it.

Cox 150MB Down internet.....$80/month
DirecTV Now Go Big Package (at intro rate grandfathered)...$35/month

that's $115/month....with no contract, no bundle that will increase, and no stupid "retention manager" holding shite over your head.

So a Cox "retention" supervisor told me in May of 2016 that they were no longer authorized to negotiate due to cancelling and cord cutting.

Now that might be because they have a monopoly other than DTV in the area but still.....this model doesn't hold true for all.

For those who cut the cord, how do you watch the LSU games that air on ESPN or SEC Network? Living in Denver, we rarely get local channels playing SEC.

Vue has ESPN and SEC Network. However streaming live sports leaves a lot to be desired.

I have DirecTV Now with SECN....use those creds to login to WatchESPN app...the stream is incredibly high quality and I've had 0 issues.

The only thing I miss is the ESPN channels, and only during football season.
