WHITEHALL, Ohio - A 4-year-old child was struck by a bullet fired from a Columbus Police Officer’s gun in Whitehall.

10TV has confirmed a patrol officer was answering a call on Chandler Drive just after 3 pm. Friday when a family in the area started screaming for help because of a medical emergency.

Columbus Police said the officer responded and as he was trying to help an injured woman, a dog inside the home charged him.

Investigators said the officer shot at the dog but missed and struck the child in the right leg.

According to Columbus Police, the girl is in stable condition at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The injured woman in the home was taken to Grant Hospital for treatment.

There needs to be more accountability. This cop will received absolutely no meaningful discipline for this and that girl will hampered, physically and psychologically, by this injury for life.

So during a medical emergency with children in close proximity... His first reaction was to draw his weapon and begin firingfiring?

Cops have to be tazed before they can use tazers. It's not full blast, because they just tape the prongs to themselves, and don't actually get shot.

Solution: if a cop wants to carry a gun, he has to strap on a bulletproof vest and take a shot to the chest.

Riot police get shot with a 12 gauge beanbag at 30 yards, and stand in a room full of teargas.

Make them repeat every few years.

Tasers aren't real effective against charging dogs.

The prongs of a taser are designed to be shot at a human torso and to spread apart which most times means only one prong actually sticks the dog.

It is very difficult to get both prongs to hit on a dog running at you.

Just saying.

Uhhhhh this. If the dog is still alive and unharmed then it is clear that it provided absolutely no danger to the officer, the fricking pussy that he is.

How do meter readers do their jobs? If a dog starts charging you, pretend to pick up a stick and run at the dog. Most times he will back down. If not hit him with your club. Believe me, I know how to handle dogs.

They call and tell you the meter reader is too scared to read the meter and put in a meter they can read from the road.

I'm trying to think of the excuses Negative Nomad is going to make.

"They shouldn't have had their dog in the house."

"Why wasn't the four year old in her room?"

"A cop's safety from Fido is more important than a 4 year old's bodily integrity"

Love how everyone calls the cop a pussy when you know damn well every poster here would have done the exact same. In before "higher standards". How many other dog threads are there here where posters say they will shoot pit bulls in their yard and get 50 upvotes. Or the dog even somewhat shows aggression to a kid they will put it down.

All talk and not a single fricking clue. fricking idiots, most of you.

And the moron that thinks you can hit a charging dog with a taser.

So you're ok with the cop shooting inside the house and hitting a 4 yr old?

No, but making a bunch of assumptions on what happened and the extent of the danger is pointless.

Its unfortunate, the kid's parents will get a big settlement and if it was indeed reckless hopefully the local community does what is need to solve the problem.

But its pointless to get up in arms when you don't have all the info.
