he says frick it and turns his lights off. How common is it for cops, especially at the state police level to give up pursuit once they narrowly avoid you and speed off? Depending on the circumstances I might actually think this is a good policy, for the sake of public safety. However, it seemed like the cop was willing to cause serious harm to the idiot motorcycle driver and maybe wasn't completely on the up-and-up.

Warning: vertical Youtube video here

Your cop hate threads are usually much better than this. This is weak sauce for you.

It's not a cop hate thread. I stated in the OP that I think it is good policy not to engage in high speed chases over petty BS so I commend him for that. I just found the video to be odd.

That should be the policy in every damn department everywhere.

Looks like he was trying to get the motorcycle to pull over which obviously wasn't going to happen.

So he pulled a very tame cut off as a last ditch effort to see if that would get the guy to stop.

Didn't work so he gave up. He wasnt going to catch him anyway unless the motorcycle crashed right off the bat.

What, no pursuits for traffic violations?

Really? Because it looks like a tPOS cop in a mote carlo was trying to pin that guy against the barrier

And you know that cop went into the motor pool and said,"yeah... I'll take the monte carlo.. "

No high speed pursuits of shoplifters, or other bullshite crimes, including "traffic violations".

Yeah, Denham and JPSO, I'm talking to you.

Adrenaline, coupled with piss-poor driving technique, usually leads to someone (not the perp) getting killed.

I see.

I disagree on the idea of no pursuits for traffic violations. I do think discretion should be used though such as during high traffic locations and times.

I was thinking the Monte Carlo stopped production in 2007.

Just kind odd to see a cop car that old.

Pursuit is fine

High speed pursuit, not so much.

What do you consider "high speed"?

90-100.

That's plenty fast for those guys. All we hear is that "you can't outrun this here rad-dio".
Well, radio up ahead to Clovis and have him get the collar.

Fast enough to endanger others around them. Especially for a minor offense. And ramming a motorcycle into the center divider is a dick move,
at any speed.

There was a doughnut shop less than two miles from there, on South Orange, just south of Kaley. That may be why the pursuit was cancelled. We would have to cross reference the time the barrier ramming subsided with the time the hot doughnuts were due.

If they clock you at a high enough speed they won't begin pursuit in the first place I thought. Buddy of mines cousin is a state trooper who works out of Montgomery and lives in Birmingham. He told me he often drives back and forth to work on his crotch rocket at 150+ the whole way because he knows he won't be pursued
