where would one start to get into this line of work?

Are you asking for Maine specifically? State Park jobs were listed on the maine.gov website, or just Google state park jobs in any state. It’s January right now so they don’t really post any seasonal park jobs till around March.
If you’re looking at Acadia National Park, I believe those would be listed under USAjobs.com or USA jobs.gov.

The great part was, there’s no age discrimination. They will hire 16-year-olds or retirees, doesn’t matter. It was more of a hobby than a career because the pay is so low but just for a summer or two, it’s fun work.

Worked in a psychiatric hospital in Baton Rouge. It wasn't a big state-run "asylum," but a smaller inpatient facility and still saw some crazy arse shite.

Meadow Wood off Perkins? Had a roommate in college work there. He was basically a bouncer. Came home with some crazy stories.

working for the sports and information department at Angelo State University as a student worker. Keep scores, stats, call out spots for the football game from the pressbox. pay attention to records in case they were broken. basketball was a lot of fun too down on the court.

worst sport by far was volleyball. you had to document every bump set and spike on each side every time even if a rally was going on. that was actually really stressful. however, as a younger man, the view wasn't terrible either.

other than that, it was an awesome, fast paced job.

not meant for a married man with kids. my first year teacher salary was higher than my boss with 10+ years of experience. my boss or his assistant were at every home game of soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, football, and others.

Selling programs at LSU games in 1990-1991. I was 15-16 and walked around campus carrying a box of programs in my arms and a bottle of gatorade and vodka in my back pack along with an extra box of programs.
Not a care in the world with essentially no boss.
Made good money while getting shite-faced for 4 hours on a Saturday.

I was a touring rave DJ in the 90s and early 2000s. I was fortunate to play in cities all over the US - NYC, Miami, Denver, Houston, ATL, Orlando, Melbourne, Charlotte, etc

I also did some stunt driving on movies in NOLA during the movie boom before Katrina. That was a lot of fun.

Current job I work for a huge guitar manufacturer, which can be fun. I've met people like Herbie Hancock, Sheila E, Stevie, Al Kooper, Stanley Jordan, Victor Wooten, etc.

Offshore roustabout between undergarad and law school to make money for honeymoon. Loved the crew I worked with - all south Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama guys twice as old as me. After a hitch or 2 cleaning pig traps, etc spent my days platorm hopping with the field mechanic - could shut them down to the ground and bring them back up again - loved it

Man, that brings back some memories!!

Coolest job I ever had was being a scaffold builder right out of high school in the early 90's. Worked with most of my closest friends and we traveled all over the country together.

Worked a union job in 1990 at the age of 19 and made $1500/wk for 3 months. I thought I was rich!

deer cocaine-nothing but unrefined salt with purple cool aide added. before cool aide, it was jensen violet.

roll lix/deer suckers-deer really didnt fool with them. weather would make the molasses drip to the ground and small critters would tear up the ground eating it. when you went back it would be almost empty and the ground was tore up. You would think the deer were killing it

watched a few well known TV hunters come there to shoot a video. One pretended it was set in Alaska but was really shot in our deer pen which was about 25 acres.

Worked two years in my early 20's spraying utility ROW's to keep tree growth down, just riding side by sides down ROW's spot spraying trees all day.

Most of the guys were my age (mostly State alums) and we'd travel around all over the place, work hard all day, have a good dinner, then play NCAA football tournaments on Playstation at night or watch movies.

It was fun and it was easy to save money working on the road like that but then everyone else started getting better jobs and moving on and the remaining workforce got really trashy as the economy got better. I moved on as well.

They would not. But I feel as though I could answer for him, since he confirmed it earlier in the thread.

ETA: or were you seriously asking, thinking I was the poster who said I worked for the show? Because I'm not. The poster who said that is "JW",

I'll just leave that there.

I built playgrounds for Mc Donald’s back when they had them. Traveled all over the country. Been to every state in the lower US.
You were there about a week and rolled out. Stayed in hotels. No drug test. Always traveling.
Had a blast.
