The city of New Orleans has terminated its $7 million catch basin cleaning contract after the company fell short on several key issues including the amount of basins that could be cleaned, the city said Friday.
quote:
The city said it terminated the deal for three reasons:
- RAMJ had said that it had immediate access to 20 vacuum trucks at the time of the bid and to date has only come up with five trucks.
- The goal was to complete 125 catch basin cleanings per day and to date it had cleaned only 347 catch basins since Sept. 6
- The DEQ told the city that RAMJ had failed to properly dispose of waste material captured from the basins in a lawful manner.

The city has now issued an award letter to Compliance Envirosystems, LLC, who was determined to have 15 trucks immediately available. The city said it is expediting the contract so that work can begin early next week.

I love how this is listed as a reason RAMJ was fired, when the truth is the city didn't put together the proper logistics in the bid request.
quote:
"As is typical for these types of projects, one priority of the first week was to finalize all logistics. When it became clear that the contractor needed a better process to appropriately dispose of the solid and slurry waste products from the storm drains, DPW met with representatives of LDEQ for consultation on the disposal process last week," said Erin Burns, Press Secretary for Mayor Mitch Landrieu.

They probably found forty years of shite in the ones they cleaned out resulting in additional time for each unit.

Back in the Katrina cleanup they had connections with the Sewer and Water board. No idea about today.

A waste company needs to be told in a bid how to legally dispose of waste?
Shouldn't they know this already?

This. Or something similarly related

if they just offered a set amount of money per basin to be cleaned out to anyone who calls in advance and cleans one out, the people in the neighborhoods would have every single one cleaned out in less than 2 weeks

So the company averages about 24 catch basins a day. Well that isnt bad considering how much crap is in those catch basins because nobody truly knows when the basins were last cleaned out

I can believe that. The disposal is overlooked A LOT in these types of bids. Knew of a contractor after Katrina that bid a job low as shite because he knew that he could charge what he wanted for the disposal.
