slightly used mustang gt...if your going to commute, may as well have fun doing it.

Yeah, that's crossed my mind. I'd be lucky to get 20+ mpg in a 5.0 though, especially with my right foot being slightly heavy.

Camry XSE has heated leather with suede inserts. You'd have to go to Texas to get the price I gave you, but it's worth it. Go drive one, they're very nice.

Going to Texas, buying online, anything to help save $ is the plan. Thanks

I just turned in my Chevy Impala Rental I had today. I was surprised at the style, comfort, and pep when I stepped on the accelerator. The on board computer said I was averaging 25mpg.

VW Passat turbo. Very quick/fast and mpg is incredible. You can get a 2015 with leather etc with 12k miles for about 16k

I went from V6 Accord to '15 Passat TDI SEL. Great car with exception of some minor annoyances (touch screen is slow, no fully leather seats and couple of other things). Normally, you wouldn't be able to get it used for $16k. I looked at a late model used before actually buying it and used it was mid $20s. Ended up buying brand new because it didn't pay to buy used at the time. You won't find a diesel on any VW dealership lots. They can't sell them new until there is a "fix". I don't think you'll find one used on any lots either.

I'm actually looking the Mazda 3. You have the 4cyl I take it? Any trouble with horsepower? Fun to drive? How's it handle?

I just bought a 2016 Mazda 3. If you are interested in a compact the specs are pretty good on the higher and lower end models.
184 horsepower, 40 mpg, crash avoidance radar and fully loaded for around $25,000. It handles nice too. You can definitely get a bigger car for a lot less but if you want a new compact you get a lot of bang for you buck with a 3

I have a Jetta TDI value pack and it's about as good as you can do for a budget commuter car. 50mpg, tons of power, lots of amenities you won't see on other value cars, about $20k brand new with the stick shift.

Too bad they're outlawed right now.

Get you a slightly used VW Passat. Here is a 2015 Fully loaded with 9k mikes for well under 30K. Looks like it meets most of your criteria.

I've heard Mazdas are great the first couple years then fall apart.

Kinda confirmed this while shopping for a used Mazda for my son. Went over a bump and the whole damn interior rattled...

I know you are beholden to "The Big 3" but Civics are great small cars that hold their value very well

I have a 2007 that I bought used with 30k on it. Now over 220K and very reliable.

4 cylinder with plenty of pep, but I do have the 5 speed and not the automatic. I have the low profile tires and it is really fun to drive. Holds the corners really well.

When this one conks, I will almost assuredly get another.

Honda Accord Sport model new at $23-ish, will get 30 mpg (overall, hwy & city) but has cloth seats which are nice (much better than the Accord base velour shite) but not leather. To have them replaced with leather seating surfaces is < $1k.

Resale is wonderful even after 100k or 200k on them.
